Hello all ! new to this board . I recently purchased a 64' MGB with a 67' engine ( I have the original ) and a 74' tranny! The car is in good shape , hardly any rust , will need new paint and interior and the engine seems to be doing O.K. Looking forward to bothering everyone on this board with questions

Welcome, Eric....Isetta, huh? Friend had one of those way back in high school...we had fun in it..loading wth girls & making beer runs!
 
We could have had a Fiat Multipla but we didn't have anywhere to put it , even though its not bigger than a bread box . I wish we could have made room for it , bad move on our part .

Next time I get the Auburn and Isetta out , I'll take some pix and put them up , am I allowed to do that since they aren't British ?
 
Oh yes!! Any interesting set of wheels will do. We're British car enthusiasts but the operative words here are "car enthusiasts".

Is your's the British-assembled Isetta? Or German-assembled Isetta? If it's the British-assembled one then you can feel free to post the picture here on BCF

I have a soft spot for the little cars, ever hear of some guys up in Ontario with a meet called Micro North? Every June they have a micro car meet and this year's will be near Guelph, Ontario, they have a number of guys coming in from the States as well and it's a great weekend too, it's fun seeing a bunch of three-wheelers (and other small cars) driving in convoy on public highways, side roads of course though...

Be careful though. This board will give you a pretty good case of MG fever. My illness lay dormant until June 2002 and I bought my B roadster. I had a ball with the car and decided to give it a renovation that is still going on. I got the fever so bad that I just took delivery of a '70 GT. I missed driving the car and just couldn't handle not driving one during the fall colors! Just a friendly warning here; MG fever is real.

My Isetta is a 57' 300 sliding window . This one has four wheels and from what I have read , is the German kind , it has BMW stamped right in the front ( although I think current BMW owners swear its not really a Bimmer ).

I am familiar with Micro north , I used to be in a club called Minutia , and I think it is affiliated with them.

The ACD Festival is one heck of a car show . If its been made , odds are you'll see it there . Interesting that your grandfather used to make them . Every year there are people there that used to work in the factory , needless to say they are getting few and far between.

I think ( I know ) that I am going to have more fun in the MG , the other two aren't really practical to drive ( considering its against the law for the Isetta to be on the road )

To slooooooow . You can have it on the back roads and neighborhoods but definitely not the highway . Believe me , you don't want to get it on the road with other traffic .

WOW!! A friend in Kansas City has been trying to get me to buy his little BMW & I've though about it from time to time...didn't know it wasn't street legal though!
 
Not street legal?

That's a new one on me, I'm not saying I'd want to drive one on a fast road (ie. freeway), but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not street legal - at least not anywhere I've heard of.

At last years Micro North one guy drove his Isetta to the meet from Toronto, he stuck to the single lane highways and didn't take the freeway, and I'm sure it goes without saying that he drove very carefully as well.

I'm sure your B will be fun, and all the micro car owners I know also tell me that the micro cars are a blast (in a different way) to drive around, heck even my friends back in Ontario who own an original-spec 1951 Ford Prefect, 20 BHP?, won't even touch a freeway so it's not just micro cars.
 
I may be wrong about the Isetta being street legal , I was just always told they weren't , and as big as they are , why argue ? it makes sense. Believe you me , I don't care if it is street legal , I'm not getting on the road in one.

If someone is wanting to sell you their little BMW , I'd buy it and buy it now ! If it's an Isetta , buy it , if its a 600 , buy it . If anything is old and a BMW , i'd buy it .

Welcome to the board. There are a bunch of knowledgable and helpful folks here. I think you'll find the MGB to be a fun and comfortable little sports car. Once sorted, they are reliable as well.
