T-Series New 52 TD owner saying Hello

In it's new home:

(You may notice some stains on the concrete. I did my research and found that these LBCs tend to mark their territory, so I went ahead and marked the territory myself. I hope that this isn't the wrong approach to housebreaking an MG.)

Looks great! Those brackets are for a removable Brooklands-style windscreen. If you don't have (or want) the windscreen then you may as well remove the brackets.

It's after market. That badge came from a hub cap. Is that the heater or just a duct leading to the heater? I would expect to find the heater unit itself behind the firewall.

Thank you, Steve. I actually would like to use Brooklands windscreens. I didn't show it from the angle, but there is no hole on the top part. Do the windscreens clamp to these?

A hubcap? That's funny. The heater is indeed in the passenger footwell. I haven't traced the wiring yet to see if the blower motor works.

Yes, the windscreen clamps to it. There are other styles which screw into the scuttle so the glass isn't right in your face, but it requires drilling holes in the metalwork between the dash and windscreen. With some creativity you can screw one directly to the windscreen frame but again, it require drilling holes. Only this time they are in an expensive part!

The badge in question was used on various hub caps including TD and Y-Type. The duct in the engine bay is probably home-made. Usually there is a standard air hose leading into the heater. Take a look at an MGA engine bay for an example of this type of hose.

Thank you again.

Are Brooklands 'screen clamps available from Moss, etc? I was under the impression that they were all threaded posts or something similar.

Now that he or she is home, keep your ears open and he/she will let you know what its name is.

It takes awile you have to gain their confidence.

The first step might be a nice warm cover for those cold evenings in your area.

Also, what are you guys doing for seat belts? (Or not doing?)
Thanks!

Horst Schach's book The Complete M.G. TD Restoration Manual (available from The New England MGT Register) has plans for anchor brackets for 3-point belts.

Right now my car just has lap belts (installed by the RPO -- Respected Previous Owner), but I've got a set of 3-points and this winter's project is to install them. I'm not fond of the idea of sitting behind what amounts to a very large skewer (the steering column), and my wife sitting behind a cudgel (the wiper motor, conveniently mounted forehead-high -- perfect for splitting your passenger's gourd if you hit something! ;-)

Be wary of installing 3-point belts. The attachment point will be below your shoulder and that can cause injury. Whether it causes more injury than not having them at all depends on the type of impact, so proceed at your own discretion! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

It's been something I've thought about for some time. I don't like the idea of not having them, but I also want to be around to drive this car for the next 50 years. Still not sure what to do or get.

I decided on 2-point belts mounted to the frame in my TC. Mounting to the frame versus body is another debate but that was my choice. If I install belts in the Y-Type, they will most likely be to the body because it's a heavier car.

When you have time, snap a few photos of the attachment points and where did you get them?

Bought them from Moss. Standard classic-style belts. I'll have to get under the car for photos and it's blocked right now. I put the holes through the rear of the gearbox tunnel where it overlaps the frame. On the outside I slightly enlarged the hole in the L-bracket welded to the frame, right next to the door pillar. The hole goes straight down through the floorboard.

No hurry. She's gotta run first before I need to get belts installed.

I thought about belts when I had mine disassembled & decided against them.
