Just saw this on Ebay:

Swallow Doretti

I've never seen or heard of this model before, does this look authentic? Looks like a pretty car, I like the grill, reminds me of an A/C.

I figured it was probably real, the write up in the listing seemed pretty comprehensive. Thats a cool site Andy, thanks for the link. Seems these cars have a well documented following.

It just struck me that this should have gone under the "other cars" forum but I saw the car has a Triumph motor and instinctively threw it in here.

Wow, I heard about these, but never actually seen one. Might just have to find out where in Atlanta this guy is.

[/ QUOTE ] It's perfectly fair to "lump" the Swallow Doretti in with Triumphs. TR2 engine power, named for and somewhat inspired by Dorothy Deen of Cal Sales, an early West Coast import car accessories maker/supplier and regional Triumph distributor.

And this car of Tom's is drop-dead gorgeous /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Seeing this thread reminded me of a Swallow Doretti I new in the 80's; The chassis was Aston Martin,Two litre Sport, (later renamed DB1) and after an experimental body had been fitted it was rebodied by Swallow Doretti. I knew it when I was racing Astons and the then owner had changed the engine for a 2.6 Aston engine and altered the front to look a little like a DB3S.
I attach a picture of us racing. Me in front,of course /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

i.e. Doretti = Italian-speak for Dorothy.

I seem to recall that Sir John Black was nearly killed in a Swallow Droetti accident, perhaps curbing his enthusiasm for the project.

Or would Brits say "kerbing his enthusiasm"?

Didn't Jaguar squash the Swallow Doretti project? ISTR something about an anti-competitve clause signed by the car's builder, designer or another key player, who originally worked for Jag.

Yet another TR derivative to aspire to... someday!

Just any pictures of classic LBC's racing. Always nice to see stuff like that.

There's a good collection at https://www.tamsoldracecarsite.net/ but it is a little short on British production racing.

Some day when I've found myself with too much spare time and a slide scanner I'll post the hundreds of slides I took in the 70's and 80's of SCCA regionals at the old Mid America Raceway in Wentzville, MO. I always like to see these personal shots of old racing.

This car was at VTR in Rockford IL last month, very nice car. The owner was a real nice guy, we had a good conversation. He said he is tired of a rare trailer queen and wants a really nice car he won't be afraid to drive.
