After driving for a while, the oil pressure gauge needle jiggles and vibrates between 40 and 60lbs, Any insights about this condition?

Not sure what would cause that but I sure wish I had oil pressure between 40 and 60 after driving for a while. I would be happy with 20. Mac

SU,
My BN2 has 86,000 miles on the lower end & still holds hot oil pressures of 40 idle (900 rpm) & 50 to 60 at speed. It might go lower at a slower idle but it wont idle any slower. Cold pressures are just a little higher. Go figure.

Dave,
Could it be That it was rebuilt to the proper clearences and maintained properly. Also from what I have seen in previous posts that the oil filter parts are in place and in the correct order.

CDK,

Strangely enough, there are no signs that it has ever been rebuilt. The pistons are still the factory originals with the original bore. Just the way I bought it.

The head is new however, a DW aluminum job. The previous owner had been running it with 35 degrees retarded ignition timing which severly burned the exhaust valves. I couldnt lift the original iron head without scratching the paint so opted for the 20 pound lighter aluminum one. I added a spin on oil filter. Compression is good & no oil burning. I think that the old four is a pretty sturdy engine considering that it only has three main bearings & a stroke of 4 3/8".
