Hello,
I just joined the British Car Forum because I'm the recent proud owner of not one but two British sports cars - 1971 TR6 and a 1960 AH Bugeye. A friend of mine got me interested in classic cars and we roamed around eBay looking for the right type of classic car to buy. I quickly fell in love with British sports cars. I wasn't sure what to buy as I looked at several cars including MGA, MGB, Mercedes SL, TR6, TR4 & TR3's. I could not afford a big Healey. After looking at styling and availability I wanted a TR6 and it had to be red.
My first experience with British sports cars was absolutely terrible. We saw a nice TR6 in Chicago so my friend went to inspect it. He said it was a great car but had his business dress on and did not look under the car. I flew up to Chicago, bought it, and drove it home to Louisville. After I barely made it home it needed a repair so I took it to a mechanic. He pulled me aside and showed me the most ugly rusted frame you can imagine. I could even put my hand through the frame. He said, I would not drive this car as it will likely collapse /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif. I then proceeded to sell it for a slight loss (I did let the new owner know it needed a new frame).
My next experience was great. I found an awesome TR6 in Indiana and at about the same time a friend of mine wanted to sell his newly restored Bugeye - unbelievable shape. I just could not pass it up. So as of now I'm the proud owner of two British sports cars and loving it. My two sons just love going for rides (one at a time) and showing their friends their Dads toys.
I hope to use the Forum for repair advice and sharing of experiences.
