Needle and Seat

It looks like I am going to have to replace the needle and seat in one carburator so I am going to do both. I was going to use a brass needle and seat but in the Moss catalog I see something called a Grose Jet. Does anyone know what that is and has anyone ever used one. Skip

The gross jet is a ball bearing type cut off and works real well if you do one thing first before installing. Soak them in a good carb cleaning fluid or lacquer to remove the oil they put on at the factory. Took me a while to figurer this one out, otherwise they will leak badly for a long time. Wayne

I 'inherited' grose jets when I purchased the TR4. Didn't know that was what was in there until one of them stuck (closed) and I was running on 2 cylinders. Has only happened once -- if it recurs then I expect I will swap 'em out.

Hi Skip, I have Grose Jets in all my carbs Wouldn't think about buttoning one up with out them,-FWIW---Keoke

In theory, the Grose jet should be somewhat self cleaning, since it can rotate. In practice, I have never had a standard needle & jet fail. Maybe it has to do with using a good fuel filter & not using old gummy fuel. YMMV.

What a great tip to soak the grose jets first in carb cleaner/lacquer thinner before using them ! You just solved a problem that has been nagging at me for months.I couldn't figure out, after replacing the old needles and seats with grose jets, why the fuel pump wouldn't slow down when the float bowls were full and continued to pump gas out the overflow pipes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif That's what I love about the forum, every time I check in I learn something else useful.

You sure are but so am I after all the political doubletalk I know less than I did before. Hey I hear a hissing sound from one carb throat is it the needle and seat or the jet diaphgram ( it`s a new jet diaphgram). Skip
