Needed: Oil Filter Apparatus

Greetings!

I am preparing to swap out my 948 for a rebuilt 1275. I need the apparatus that mounts to the 1275 for a spin-on oil filter. If anyone knows where I might find one, I am willing to pay a reasonable price and pay for shipping. Thanks.

Moss has exactly that part for sale for $104.95 on page 6 of the actual "parts catalog" section of their Spridget catalog. If my memory serves me correctly, spin-on filters were not fitted to the A-series at the factory. I remember fiddling with the can-and-bolt type on my Mini many years ago.

I converted my 948 to the spin on. I'm sure Mr. Donald would understand. Try the VB catalog a much cheeper unit there as I remember.

The later 1275 did have a spin on housing as standard. The 1275 that a got to go into my Bugeye has one.

I did switch my 948 to a spin on after 2 oil filter failures on the old cannister-type. I used the adaptor from Moss, and it seems to work fine. VB also has one, which is a bit different, but some BCF folks have used that one as well.

The VB one sells for $54.95 . I do not know if they are still around, but up in Oregon was an outfit called Faspec. In their catalogue I have they list the spin-on adapter for $21.95 (it is an old catalogue though). Speaking of this area, would anyone have an extra pipe that goes from the oil filter housing to the pressure valve, the one with the banjo fitting on one end!

For the old Bugeye filter, Yep, have one.

Not sure, the spin on filter one is different for sure.

Hap would know for sure, maybe someone else.

I think that the tube connect to the block is different for a 948 and 1275.

Patrick

I think so as well Pat, but just not sure.

Is the banjo a different size or what? I do have a spin-on filter so if that end is different I do need one for a 1275 w/spin-on I guess! Right now I have the two ends connected with a rubber hose clamped to each and since the original tube got badly kinked at some point in the past and got cut apart. It works, but you know...the right way is always more betterer!

As I remember, the length is just a bit different for some reason?? The racers cut them and that is where they tap for the oil cooler lines.

Mike, the tube is simply soldered into the banjo fitting. If you have the banjo end you can heat it up with a torch and pull out the old tube then sweat in a new copper or steel tube. I've used steel brake line and copper refrigerant tubing, bent it to the correct shape and silver soldered it into the fitting. The filter end can just be a compression fitting.

Oh, so simple when Chris says it. How come I didn't think of that, duh.

Awsome! Thanks Chris, Why didn't I ever think of that too!...Duh. Thanks guys, now I can get it done right (after a couple of tries as ususal I'm sure!). You know I never did like the position of the tube's position re: the dizzy (It was always a tight squeeze to the set bolt for the dizzy. NOW I can fix that...Thanks. I guess if you admire the problem, you CAN find a solution.

The 1275 spin on adapter, can say for sure on the oil tube, but I think it is as well, but on the unit I did for Jack, I just took a oil off a 948 unit I had lying around because on the 1275 some DA has cut the oil tube for lack of a better plan. I tested fitted on a 1275 and a 948 block, the blocks are the same as far as mount locations.

Good deal Hap, thanks.

And John I do have a tube, even painted engine green, that I can send your way. PM your address.

Jack -

You have a pm.

i bought a filter and oil line awhile ago on ebay because mine was kinked. at the time, i wasn't entirely sure the oil line fit my 1275, because the banjo fitting looked different. i still have the line and could get you a picture if you want. i repaired the old line (although i haven't tested it yet) so i didn't use the other line. i've kept it just in case so if it's the right line and your stuck, i can send it to you. let me know.

Thanks for the offer Fred, I think I will try the suggestion above, but if I am unsuccessful, I will certainly get in touch. Thanks!
