Needed: A title for a BN7

Richard, if you have the body and original engine you can get a certificate from the BMIHT that will identify the VIN from the engine number, and the chassis number, that is stamped on the right side shock mount.

Just my own observation, but I do not feel that Richard's trying to pull off a fraud, as I believe he'd be smart enough to not broadcast it on a public forum, I just think he was looking for the easiest way to get a car on the road with the least amount of hassle__that kind of backfired...

I won't deny that there can be unscrupulous motives, but I fail to think his reason is sinister.

There is a correct way to get a new VIN assigned to a car that does not have one. Using a title and the VIN from a different car and self assigning it to another car as described in the post is simply a felony. The law on this is very clear and I don't see the debate. My last post on the subject.

Not all Austin Healeys had a number stamped on the right shock tower.
Swamping tags from one car to another is a felony and I do not recommend it.
These cars will undergo many restorations to keep them on the road but that does not mean it has to lose its identity as an Austin Healey as long as you maintain your the proper serial number and paperwork that came with the car at manufacturing.

I'm wishing now that I never asked for a BN7 title.
But, I do need to say a couple of things. First, the number stamped on the right front shock tower on the early 3000's is not the serial number. It is a lot number that Jensen used. It is not part of the Heritage Trust documentation and you cannot identify a car from that 4 digit number..
Secondly, I understand all of what Healey Z is saying. But please, lighten up. In reality, if you are chemically stripping your Healey or media blasting your Healey as part of any kind of restoration process, or even just repainting your firewall, you WILL need to unscrew those two little phillips screws and remove your VIN tag in order to do the job and preserve the VIN tag. And if you do this, technically, you will have committed a federal crime. So I think we should just let this thread die quietly.
