went to the trouble of putting a 5 sp in my sprite, now i have had a stroke and cannot drive it. any sugestions for an automatic.

sorry to hear about the stroke - glad you can still drive

I'm sure the datsun 210 also came with an automatic - though another thought might be a complete engine/ tranny swap - might be easier and cheaper than a tranny conversion alone
 
I'd look for a 1980 Datsun B210 Deluxe with auto trans and pull the motor and trans and slip them in.

You should be able to sell your 5 speed for enough to pay for just about everything. (last one I saw on ebay went for $650)

I hope what I am about to say is received in the good spirit in which it is intended. I imagine you are dealing with a lot of frustration right now.

After watching several loved ones go through stroke, I have observed that recovery is all about goals. It may be worthwhile for you to set driving that 5 speed again as goal to work for. A good goal like that makes going to physical therapy and doing the often tedious exercises associated with physical therapy a lot easier.
