Need some guidance on transmission removal

I'm trying to remove the transmission from side shift BN6. I have my jack & a jack stand under transmission. I removed the all the nuts and bolts connecting the clutch housing to the engine, removed the nuts & bolts transmission mounts to frame, removed the nuts and bolts connectint to drive shaft. Everything moves fairly freely but something is holding the clutch housing to the engine????? Help please.

You don't say anything about a jack under the engine. Or did you just forget to mention it? The only rear engine support is the transmission mount. Things are in a real bind. If you did pull the transmission the back of the engine would drop on the floor.

You will need to raise or lower the engine jack until the transmission is free. Use a large board between jack & engine to prevent mashing the pan. You wont need the jack under the transmission.

There are locating pins between the transmission and the engine that are a tight fit to accurately align the two. It can be difficult to get them to let loose when you want them to.

Did you remove or disconnect the clutch slave clyinder?

Thanks for all the help. Yes the slave cylinder was removed. I also got some private email to assist in my situation. I am dismantling the car for a total restoration and thought I could just take out the transmission and leave the engine in place until I got my buddy to bring his winch by. I've seen some posts that talked about pulling the transmission although I guess when Basil moved servers all those old posts got lost????
Anyway, I put a few nuts & bolts back in and my "roller" is now ready waiting for the winch guy to come by at which time we will pull both the transmission as described and then the engine. Thanks to all.

It's a big heavey lift with engine and trans together, and you can't split them in the car. When you have the engine out consider modifying the front cross member so the middle can be removed and replaced for ease of engine removal. I was having some engine trouble which required removal and was in denial not wanting to start the job. Then at Elkhart Lake Vintage races one of the big Healey's blew up his engine. An hour later the engine was out and on a stand - tranny still in car. Investigation revealed the removalable centre chassis section. I went home and cut my chassis accordingly - had my engine out in one hour. What an ingenious solution. The centre section was modified with flanges added internally, and with button head screws it take an eagle to spot the modification.
