Need shipping help

I'm trying to sell a set of wheels on eBay. I have an interested party who has inquired about shipping costs. When I bought the wheels recently, it cost me around $20 per box in shipping. Estimating shipping to send them about the same distance, I'm getting $40 per box from Fed Ex, UPS and USPS.

The boxes are 18" square, 45 lbs each. Anyone know a cheaper way to ship them? Was the cheap shipping due to the place I got them having a commercial account with Fed Ex?

Believe it or not - try Greyhound Bus Lines.
You still want breakfast?

Greyhound wants even more money. $45. I don't understand how the place that sold them to me can ship them so cheap. One was from Reno to Los Angeles and cost $18. The other was from back east and cost $28.

There is also a difference shipping them to a residential or commercial address-- commercial cheaper. And... commercial accounts usually get a price break too.

P.S. for $160 total shipping, you may find it cheaper to ship truck freight with Yellow or someone like that. But then you will need to ship to a commercial address...

I've found FEDEX Ground to be the least expensive way & to a commercial address even less expensive than to a home address....&, yes, having a commercial account helps with costs...& doing the shipping on-line also helps (but I think you have to have an account to do that)....usually those places where you drop off packages charge a fee on top of the actual shippping costs as that's how they stay in business.

Plus, everybody's gone up in price what with fuel costs today - & they charge a fuel surcharge on top of everything else.

If your buyer has an account, see if he wants to use it....that'll save $$$'s.

Thanks guys. I'm selling the wheels for $100 starting bid, so if it costs $90 to ship then I'll never sell them!

Are you getting hit for "over sized" packages? If you are try breaking it down to 1 wheel per box. At 45 lbs each, I reckon you're putting two wheels in each box?

Correct, and interesting idea. I'll try it. But I don't think it's over sized at all. The boxes with two wheels in them are 18" square.

I just picked up 4 Superlites from Hap and shipping from Az. to NY is $65. They must have a commercial deal worked out.

18" square or 18" cube? If I'm not mistaken, the measurements of all 3 sides add up to determine "over sized" rates...

Just looked at UPS: https://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/prepare/oversize.html

erm... I was gonna add some extra info, but the more I look the bigger the can of worms gets... what with "size densities" versus weight and pick up delivery, etc.

18x18x18. I broke it down to four individual boxes and it was the same price. 4 boxes at $20 each instead of two boxes at $40 each. Looks like there's no way around it.

bummer

In the past Fed Ex ground with a corporate account has been the cheapest for me.

Not meaning to get off subject, but not everyone charges a fuel charge. Might be a minor point. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I work with ABF trucking, they have a pricing system on the website. You might see if they could save you a bit.
