Need photo/alignment for rocker panel

Hi Everyone!

Does anybody have a good photo of the connection between the rocker panel nose and the hinge pillar for a BJ7? I want to make sure that I don't trim too much before I start cutting the replacement piece.

Any complete car I look at has the trim installed that obscures the connection.

If you have a closer shot of the front connection between the nose of the rocker panel and the hinge pillar from behind, rather than from in front, that is what I'm looking for. Although I must say that yours aligns differently than mine is even from this perspective. My new inner sill, when attached to the new outrigger, sits in a position that when the hinge pillar is attached to the original scuttle side panel, the lower tabs for attachment to the inner sill sat perhaps 3/16" off of the inner sill. I ended up tweeking the tabs until they made contact before welding them into place.

I'm sure this is difficult to envision, and so I will bring my digital camera home from the office tomorrow and attach a photo for clarification.

My concern has been for the relationship between these pieces, and how I should trim the replacement rocker to fit appropriately. If I mount the new rocker flanges flush against the inner sill, it will fall that 3/16" short of the outer alignment with the edge of the hinge pillar.

I hope a couple of photos will clear this up. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Lance,

Here are a few more photos taken before final paint (it would be hard to photograph these details now with the fender and door mounted and with the almost black paint). These are original factory rockers/sills/hingeplate. Nothing was replaced in these areas. Note the lead that was applied to fair the rocker into the fender. You can see where the lead was forced behind the fender (the lead was used on both driver and passenger sides). You may be able to use a similar technique to get the rocker flush with the fender.

John: Do you happen to have the measurements on theose holes in the rockers into which the sheet metal screws that hold the aluminum trim go? I've replaced my rockers, and will use new trim, so need to know where to place the screws. Thanks for the help, and great photos.

Took these measurements on the left (drivers) side, starting from the hinge panel, 2-3/4", 10", 17-1/4", 24-1/2", 31-3/4"

Hi John,

I've attached two photos to this and my previous post showing the area I'm asking about. Your later photos do answer my questions, though. I wanted to see how much trimming of the new rocker in the inside corner others have done, and how the outside edges line up.

What is the dimension of the distance between the top of the rocker and the top of the inner sill in your example?

I still need to add the tab back onto the rocker after I'm finished trimming and before I weld it into place.

I measured the rocker to sill on both sides. At the point directly under the gusset edge (see picture) it is 2-3/4". At the other end of the sill (near the door shut face)there is another gusset. The measurement directly below the forward edge of this gusset is 3-3/8".

Can you at least temporarily mount the shrouds,fenders and doors to see what the gaps are between the bottom door/rocker before welding the rocker?

HI John, there is something wrong with the placement of the small curved piece that the furflex attaches to in Lances picture. That entire assy should be recessed back a bit as shown in your pictures. As Lance's installation is presently shown the Aluminun trim pieces have no place to set on top of the main Cill.---Keoke ?
 
Hi Keoke, You are right .. the way it is leaves no room for the trim piece along the sill top or room for the furflex seal when the door closes. Lance ???
 
ANYBODY KNOW IF THIS SAME ROCKER PANEL AND FRONT DOOR POST CONFIGURATION IS THE SAME ON A 61-62 BN7, IF SO MINE COMES STRAIT DOWN WITH NO INWARD OFFSET. I MAY NEED TO THINK ABOUT SOME RECONSTRUCTING BEFORE I INSTALL MY DOORS AND FENDERS. ANYONE KNOW THE PURPOSE OF THIS OFFSET???
