Need Oval-head chromium-plated screws for "Mk IV"

Re: Need Oval-head chromium-plated screws for "Mk

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]Ford uses cup washers too! I have a '92 Ford Aerostar minivan that has cup washers in all the upholstery panels and plastic upholstery fittings. Only problem is: They are not Chrome but Black Annonized or something like that, and the screws are, you guessed it, Phillips, [/QUOTE]

Holy cow, that's exactly what is used for the center dash section of the GT6 Mk3 (& possibly the contemporary Spitfire).

I'm off to the Ford place & possibly the jy if Ford no longer has the '92 hardware.

What size are the screws in your Aerostar?

Re: Need Oval-head chromium-plated screws for "Mk

here's a picture, but I have no idea of the size/gauge of these screws; But all Aerostars since 1986 have the same screws and cup washers now that I remember; My '92 is my second Aerostar. My first was a 1986 and it was the same.

These screws vary in length and a few are pretty hefty screws in width or thickness, but just a few. All are oval-head screws and all are self-tapping. I suppose a salvage yard would prove a gold mine....but shhhh keep it a secret!
sorry about the picture but I couldn't get a decent focus.

Re: Need Oval-head chromium-plated screws for "Mk

Hmm...the screw looks like it's not a regular oval head, but one of those kind with a 'fake washer' as part of the head.

I'll hit the jy & rob all black anodized cup washers that are the correct size, though! I can paint some oval-head screws.

Re: Need Oval-head chromium-plated screws for "Mk

I broke the washer off to find out. The screw is a half-oval shape, above and below the head, certainly not as oval as those original Jaguar screws, but oval nonetheless! The cup washer itself is very similar to the Jaguar cup washer, if not identical, the problem is removing it from the screw without damaging it. The way to do that would be to reduce the thread of the screw by grinding it away, otherwise the cup washer will not come off, it's a one-way job. Or, cut the screw shank right at the bottom of the cup washer.
Another alternative is to find out who supplies Ford and contact them to get the washers only.

here's another picture but again I can't get the focus right.

I have a photo on my computer, but do not know how to post one to this site.

Re: Need Oval-head chromium-plated screws for "Mk

you have to use the Advanced Editor to post pictures -

to use the Advanced Editor, click on REPLY (found at the bottom of the last post box). Do not click on QUICK REPLY, that is a basic/simple Editor.

When the Advanced Editor is started, look at the bottom of the text box and you will see a FILE MANAGER - click on that to upload a picture/file.

Re: Need Oval-head chromium-plated screws for "Mk

Those are self drilling screws, and the screw is driven through the washer.
