Need new fuel tank for my 100

Hi HLY106. While I personally have not used this source for a tank, west coast personel that have bought his tanks seem to be quite satisfied with the product and indicate that the quality is much better than those supplied by the usual parts sources. Others have opted for the Aluminum units to avoid future rust problems. A thought might be to purchase this tank and have it sealed internally.---Fwiw---Keoke
 
thanks for the feed back - I was wondering about the fuel line connections and the tank sitting in the trunk properly?
The original tank has lasted me my 20 plus yrs of ownership, I think the heavier gauge should last me the rest of my lifetime plus a couple of extra years - jim /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
 
When I tried to get a new aluminum tank from one of the well known suppliers, all they had was steel, so I got the steel tank. The threaded outlet was wrong & the tank isn't galvanized inside. I live in a dry climate & moisture never gets near the tank. Never the less, it soon had a light powdery rust coating inside. Or maybe it was there from the start & I didn't notice it.

This powder goes right through the SU pump screens & plugs "good or maybe too good" filters in short order. Without filters, the powder readily collects in the float bowls. I now have a large, easily accessable, filter at the tank outlet plus a spare. Also a smaller filter at the carbs. Wish I'd held out for the aluminum tank.

Dave - thanks for the warning, anyone out there have any bad experiences with the aluminum tanks. I heard they are square and as a result the tie down straps don't fit properly /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I got Moss’ alum tank. I think the straps would have worked fine if I hadn’t added extra padding under the tank. There was quite a gap between the tank and the hole in the floor of the trunk that I wanted to fill. This made the straps a little short, but they did fit with some persuasion. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

My experience with the Moss replacement steel tank was somewhat happier in that the pickup's threading was at least correct. I too have found a few very light rust particles in my SU's filter though I can't say that I have seen any in the inline FRAM that sits between the tank and the fuel pumps. Maybe it's time I checked my fuel bowls....

If you want to spend some bucks Denis Welch sells a 15 or so gallon aluminum tank that is foam filled (it is NOT claimed to be a "fuel cell") plus a sender unit that is claimed to be accurate though I am not sure that it fits in the original dash hole. I believe the tank is 2" higher in profile so it might make the boot floor a little lumpy.
