found a B-210 wagon that I'm getting drive train out of if it checks out,

Getting for transmission but got to thinking about switching complete motor and trans. seems like it has been mentioned being done on this board. not good with search can someone link me up. hoping it will be a easy conversion since I can get trans mounts from rivergate making that part a no brainer

Several different configurations are available.

Does it have a 5 speed?

You can get a 1300, 1400 or 1500 motor and a 4 speed, 5 speed or automatic. You should ask what it's got in it.

With any of the motors there are different heads that will fit any / all of them. The sweet head to look for is the GX. Whether or not it's a GX the next most valued is the oval port head. The ones built for economy have the round port heads.

Goodies are available for the oval ports, like dual SU intake manifolds for instance. Goodies are rare if it's the round port model.

I'd recommend you look at forums.ratsun.net for lots of info.

The B210 tranny is awfully big to put into the Spridget. The 210 one is a good bit smaller. Verify from the Rivergate web that you are getting the correct one or it could be a real hassle.

Bill is right, the"dog leg" 63 trans will fit but will require some " massageing" to do so. 80 thru 82 60 trans is best. 79 will work but drain plug is'nt as handy.
The B210 engine is however more powerful than the 210 engine which was redesigned for fuel economy and emissions. The early 63 trans is the strongest as well.
I'm in the process of doing the datsun engine and trans swap and can tell you that it is surprizing just how little room there is in a spridget engine compartment.
Rick can tell you that the hood will have to be bubbled or fitted with a hood scoop to clear the stock carb. Exhaust mani dos'nt begin to come out in the right place and I don't know what I'm going to fit for a rad yet. Also need to modify the pan or crossmember, add motor mounts and modify the steering rack crossmember.
I am looking at building everything that bolts to the ports so I can keep the stock "bonnet"
Hopefully the B210 you are looking at has a 5 speed, most were 4.

Thanks for saving me from making a mistake on that one. I did not realize a B-210 was a different car than a 210.

Ed's Datsun 1200 link will get you to everything you would ever want to know about the A series Datsun engine and the trans that bolt to it. I have been a Datsun fan as well as brit fan since watching the 510's kick tail in the early 70's.
