Need info on Rover K / 4AGE swap

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

JPS,

Thanks for the link. I didn't know that site exsisited.

I'm torn on rotarys. I pulled a couple of them down and they are pretty much disposable engines. Parts cost WAY more than a good running used engine. I went through four engines and still couldn't come up with a set of rotor housings that passed spec. $750 each for new housings, $350 for the "gasket" set and $125 for machine work on the outter plates not to mention apex seal cost.....it all went in the garbage. (costs 15 years ago)

My buddy built one for his 3rd gen car, but used new EVERYTHING. I don't see the point.

Once the chrome linings of the housings are damaged, they're junk. Most are better left w/ the old seals in them as new ones aren't conformed to the housing walls and loose compression after a rebuild. They don't readily "break in" like rings do.

I do like the power and the size though.

Yeah they do have some crazy stuff there. The Hemi Sprite link doesn't work though, Awwwwww!

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

I know, I know !!!! It makes one wonder......

Ya know......VW has the VR6 that takes up the space of a 4 cylinder......

I'd hate to put a German engine in a British car just for the sound. (ok,the 173 hp doesn't hurt either.)

I like the fact that the Jag Sprite is all British, but I don't like the weight or the cost. It is cool though.

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

I did a SMALL amount of research and apparently the 1.8 wasn't avalible in North America and "used engine" requests turned up only 2.5's

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

The big deal about the Rover engine is that it weighs about 180 pounds lessthan what you are taking out.
The 4AGE is heavier... that weight loss makes up for much horsepower,

The Rover 1.8 can easily do 160-170 HP... reliably.
Frontline is the best source of info.
And when I was looking there are many Rover engines that pop up on the British Ebay Motors site.just search Ebay UK.

The Ford Ranger pickup is the source for the tranny you need.

The Rotary idea is nice but you then deal with gobs of excess heat.
