TR2/3/3A Need help with pivot and body bracket for hood

Need help with the pivot and body bracket to which the hood sticks attached on each side.
One of the screws that attaches the bracket to the body is protruding slightly and preventing the sticks from having a free motion.
You can see the part in the Moss website - it is part # 854-850. In the attached parts image the bracket is #3 and the screw is #6.
I just cannot tell what the attaching screws actually screw in to. Before I go ahead and force the screw out, I would like to know what is on the other side.

There is a nut plate behind the interior quarter panel steel. It provides a slight amount of movement for the bracket #3. The screw should set deep enough that it shouldn't interfere with the stick movement. The best bet would be to remove the screws and then run a 1/4-28 tap through the nut plate threads to clean them out. Look carefully at the screws to ensure they are in good condition. The originals are chromed, and don't repond well to being run through a die, but it's worth a try if they look nasty. Replacements from the big 3 are usually stainless...which work well but can gall from corrosion.

Once both threads are cleaned the screw should install fully into the bracket to give the sticks clear travel.
 
When you go to refit the screw, put a nail or center punch in the other hole of the frame and inner bracket. This will help you wiggle and manipulate the other hole you cannot see while you are trying to get the screw started and let you know where you are at on the inner bracket.
