Need help with Longbridge interior

So you work on your car for years and you do a little bit (or big bit) at a time, and you think you know what's going on, because you look at pictures, read books, get advice, etc. Then one day you get to a point where you're looking at something that you've seen hundreds of times before, and it looks like it doesn't belong on your car. There is a piece of vinyl covered wood that runs from the floor to the top of the door frame, in front of the wheel well. See healeysix.net, Longbridge car, page 2. On my car there is a metal box like thing at the top, in front of the top frame slide mechanism, about four inches square, which I think doesn't belong - see pictures. Can somebody help???
OOps - got all the pics sideways - sorry!

longbridgehealey, i can only tell you that Ive searched for manufacturers of replacement panels and all the obvious catalogs and as many pictures of these cars as i could locate but have not found a piece that looks like the one in question, yours looks pro. done though.

Yes, that's what I thought. But I have figured out the wooden piece. There are actually two, and one is shorter than the other. The old one in the picture is the shorter of the two, and only extends upward to the "boxlike piece". The other wooden slat is shaped just like the one in the picture, and extends all the way up to the top of the box like thing. I'm still trying to figure out if the box (I don't know what else to call it) belongs there. It is mounted beneath the track for the top frame, and seems to belong, but I can't find any references to it anywhere.
Thanks for the answer,
Larry

My car has the same "box" in front of the slide and it adds a lot of rigidity to the area. There is trim peice that covers it and is a PIA to fit. Look carefully at the pics on the page on the longbridge top.

Yep, I think the box belongs there. I'm pretty sure the trim piece that covers it is moss parts 806-370 and 806-380. And I do see it on the Longbridge top page. Doe it screw on from underneath, or crimp onto the box, or what?

Thanks,
Larry

Hi, Patton, How's the interior coming? Question - from the looks of the vinyl in your picture, you're running it all the way up to the box, and under the hood frame tracks. Is this correct? I'm getting ready to tackle it, and I wasn't sure if I was going to remove the tracks, or trim around them.
Another question - did you ever get a pattern for the armrest? You're still welcome to borrow mine if you want to.

Larry

My plan, is to run it under the tracks, I think it will look more finished. Is that correct? I'm not sure. I also haven't decided what, if any padding I am putting under the vinyl. It was lighted padded from what I understand.

I am in perpetual stalled mode on the interior, I need a kick of the old Nike "just do it" attitude. I am so close, but I would almost write a check to someone to get the carpet, trim plus the exterior trim done just to have it finished.

I got an armrest for Christmas so I'm good there, thanks!

If you need more pics, let me know.

Patton

I'm not sure if it should go under the tracks, either. But I'm going to put it under, regardless. Seems easier than trimming. I'm sort of stalled too, but I'm determined to get it done before spring. (so I say).
My big challenge now is to create a pattern for the vinyl that covers the wheel well - looks like it needs a seam, and then down to under the carpet - haven't bought the carpet yet.
Currently making the patterns for the door pieces.

I'm unsure about the padding, I've gone from not using any to now thinking lightly padded. Pretty sure that's how I'll go.

Nice Christmas gift!! (armrest)

Larry

Patton, You have a PM.
