TR2/3/3A need help - value of TR2/3/4 engine & trans cores

Uncovered a stash of engines and gearboxes - all in unknown condition, going to sell as "complete, but need rebuilding"

Trying to figure out what complete cores are worth - any ideas?

Not much on ebay - is there another place I can compare pricing?

For the purpose of discussion, engine cores will be less manifolds, but include timing cover, water pump, valve cover, oil filter.... Trans will be complete with bellhousing and shifter.

FWIW -- I had a perfectly good TR4 gearbox out of the car after I installed an OD gearbox. Found that it was almost worthless -- so I stowed it in a corner of the garage against the day when the TR3 needs a replacement.

Your best hope is someone who can pickup as shipping on these items can make them expensive propositions.

IMO, about $300-$400 for the engine (mostly for head, crank & camshaft). Maybe $100 for a 4-synchro gearbox; much less for a 3-synchro.

So where does one find a stash of engines and gearboxes?

Hi Folks,

I`ve had my `65TR4 Engine and spare parts listed here in the classifieds for $200.00 "Pick-Up Only". Tons of tire kickers (Engine Kickers) but no bites.

I Placed an ad on ebay for the complete pkg $200.00. Tons of tire kickers again but no bites. Parts consist of "Block, Hd, Cam, Exhaust Manifold, Valve Cover etc etc.

So; What I am going to do is sell off the parts individually (On Ebay) or "Here" (Email me if interested). The "Pick-Up Only" I believe is the problem.

So; There you go. My current, personal exp.

Good Luck,

Russ

Eric: would these be Triumph engines that had been fitted to Morgans?

1 or 2 may have actually come out of Morgans - but Morgan only changed the front mounting plate and the pullies when installing the TR engines.

Interesting probably only to me, "CORE" is an acronym. Everyone uses the word core to refer to a rebuildable part, when, in fact, it refers to the money or store credit you get for it.

CORE stands for Credit On Rebuildable Exchange. That's why price lists show a core charge on some parts. It's the charge you must pay if you don't provide the part seller with a rebuildable exchange, i.e. the part you turn in.

The key here is the word rebuildable. If the part you turn in is not rebuildable, you don't get the full, or maybe any, CORE.

Had a girlfriend in the auto parts business.

Now back to regular programming.
