TR6 Need help on steering column

I am putting my steering column back together. Got my horns fixed, put in new steering column bushings, new u-joint, new fleixible coupling, and put in a rebuilt rack. I am having problems adjusting the distance of the steering wheel to the steering wheel cowl so that the horns do not go on. Can someone tell me what this distance is? Last thing to work on in my electrical system and everything will be working for the first time since I owned this car. Thanks in advance for any help.
