Got a call from the Wife - Daughter's Volvo started
shaking violently,& the "Check Engine" light came on.
She's in Richmond,Virginia,so I can't much from here,
plus I'm not much help with newer cars.
Can anyone help?Or know of a good shop.Of course,she
doesn't have much money to work with,as she just bought tires.

- Doug

Sounds like a misfire. Plug or coil failure maybe. Tell her if the light is blinking, stop the car asap (as soon as it is safe anyway)I will ask around about a shop there but Richmond is off my beaten parh.

Or a major vacuum hose popped off or a hungry squirrel ate it. My daughter's car used to do that.....refit the vacuum hose and all was well.

Thanks!,But why do we always seem to pay for our
children's mistakes?
I'm (semi) retired,but our kid's are trying,but seem
to always have life come back on them.I thought that I could "live
my own life" when I retired - but then we have to deal with our
Children's problems.
I want to make my/our own life better - but you don't
turn your back on your Children.
I guess it's in GOD's hand now.

- Doug

Doug - how old is your daughter?

I've heard that our kids grow up a lot faster if we let them do things on their own, and let them solve their own problems.

Tom

Doug,

Did you have someone bail you out at your daughters age? How'd that work out for you?

I feel your pain because we're in the same boat, first with children and now with grandchildren.

It's hard to go off and enjoy your life when the offspring are struggling.

No dog in his hunt, childless on purpose. Knew we weren't gonna have the tools to get offspring from where they were to where they need to be.

...but if we ~had~ the tools (money) to do the deed, the progeny would be inependent by age 18. By both design and intent. And cognizant of the fact they're "on their own". The C.S.N.& Y. "Teach Your Children Well" has a more concrete meaning than most had inerpreted, AFAIC.

Doc,

I know....I know.I always had the attitude that once they were out-
the door, they were on their own. These are not lazy kids, but things just seem
to keep slipping out of their hands.
I can't seem to turn my back on them,as they are trying. They're not
perfect (trust me!),but circumstanses just don't seem to go their way.
It was Our choice to have Children, but I keep thinking on how we could
pay off all of our bills,if we turned our backs on them.
And we also have our 6 year old Granddaughter, that landed in our laps.
She's Incredible,but also high maintenence.
I'm sorry,but I can't explain it - this is where/who I am,& maybe I'm
just trying to "Make some sense of it all".
My apologies if you don't understand,& thank you for letting me vent.

- Doug

Hi Doug.

Keep in mind that helping your adult kids doesn't always require paying their bills and fixing all the problems they encounter.

Teaching them to be self-sufficient certainly isn't turning your back on them. And it saves you money!
