TR5/TR250 Need guidance for replacing steering column bushings

Bushings have been bad for years. Front silver ring is worn oblong. Just don't know where to begin to get these bushings out. Shaft is out of the car too and looks like the silver ring has to come off first? Thinking of drilling out the rubber tab on the side then pushing the bushings out.
Any help would be appreciated.

should be a big help. thanks.
now I've heard of guys putting in 2 bushings at the bottom. looks like there is just enough room.

Yes, you may not even need to remove the old bushes.

I recently replaced the bushings in my TR6. I went with the Delrin bushings and left the old ones in place.
The job turned out to be easier than expected and the feel of wheel is a lot better.

I had a 4A and then my TR250. After many years of ownership and driving I redid the steering wheel bushings on the TR250. Didn't know the steering on a TR could feel so good. I didn't know the steering on a TR could feel so good. I didn't take the old ones out, just jambed the new ones in. Pretty easy.

Too late for the non removal option. I got a lot going on here. Adding a overdrive tranny, modern radio, new choke cable and who knows what else once I get into it. Hopefully by the end of next week.

Gilderman8 I see you have the same color carpeting as mine. Is that Milton Wool? Got mine from TRF and after being installed for 15 years in an open top Roadster it filthy in spots. Do you know what I should use to clean it?

Mine is also wool. I’ve never attempted to clean it so I can’t make any recommendations.

Yep getting there. Having trouble with everything! Can't get the rear tranny mount figured out. I'll start another post. Can't get the pics to come out of camera. What else...

OK I know it's been a while but between holidays, other car problems and delays in getting parts I finally have the new column bushings installed. Now trying to install the steering shaft is a bit concerning. Seems that the bushing holes are too small and no where did it say to ream out the holes to fit. I sprayed a Teflon dry lube on the shaft and was my first plan then some thin oil after the shaft wouldn't go in. Have a couple of extra bushings that I ordered so tried to slide them over the shaft and the same problem. Very hard to turn even in the proper location. So do these have to be reamed to size or what's going on?
