Need alittle help mounting an Altermator

Quite a while ago I bought a kit from a contact at the NTAHC. It's a very nice kit and I am sure I have the right one for my car but the alternator pulley is about 1/8th inch forward of the water pump and crank pulleys. I seems to me that the only way to get it to back up into alignment is to shave some material off the smaller, top mounting tab of the alternator. The instructions don't indicate that this should be necessary and I was hoping for a rather simple bolt in operation after the kit was installed because if the alternator fails on a Road Trip i don't want to need to shave a replacement alternator along the road. Has anyone had experience with this installation and can advise me? Thanks, Dave.

Hi Dave,
I bought my kit from Hendrix without the alt. I believe it is the same kit sold by NTAHC. I wound up with a different alternator from what the kit recommended because the guy behind the counter couldn't figure out the part #. All that to say mine may be a little different in the way it is mounted. Below is a photo of my installation. It looks like you could change the position of the mounts to get a different position for the pulley.

Gosh darn (you can't use the other word here), Greg. I just noticed how many posts you have made. That is a lot of helping people like me. Glad you have been there!

Hi Lin!
A huge chunk of them are idle banter and generally causing trouble down in the Pub. I actually lost about a thousand posts in my count when we moved to the latest forum software. I don't know if the posts vanished or the counter simply changed. No biggy.

Hi Greg, good to hear from you. Your pic is right on. There were two kits listed when I bought mine. They distinquished their appication by the number stamped into the engine side cover you had. Mine was # AEC689 and it dictated that you bought the kit which did not have the two extra links that your pick shows. So now it appears that I might need the two extra links. They would allow the top mounting tab of the alternator to be set to the right of the tab on the side cover instead of in front of the side cover as my current kit does. But I bought the kit according to the numbers. Also the other kit as you pic shows has a shorter spacer bar between the ears of the side cover to allow room for the extra links. I probably could make the links and then I would have to cut and drill the spacer bar. This is a PITA at this juncture. So far I am still studying it. I may contact the people I bought the kit from even though it was almost 4 years ago. Dave.

The late Don Lenschow made the kits and advertised them on NTAHC website. I was told that Hendrix bought the stock after Don passed away and I believe it was well over a hundred units. I do know there are two different kinds...early and late cars.

I'm going to call Hendrix Monday.
