Need advice on top storage on MK.1 and MK.2 Midget

Hello,

I was curious if this is how the convertible top is delt with on the MK.1 and MK.2 midgets? I wasn't aware that the top was to be stored in the trunk, just curious.

The MG Midgets Mk.1 and 2 do not use a Top Boot because the Convertible Top and it’s Frame stows away in the Trunk when not erected.

The only MG Midget to use a Top Boot is the Mk.3, this is because it has a Folding Frame with the Top attached to it, the Frame is bolted to the Car Body and it with the Top remain on the Car when the Top is Folded.

I came across this, and was wondering why no boot covers for my 1965 midget were made, and i guess this is why.

Chad,

You are correct. The top gets folded up, rolled up, and put in it's storage bag and is straped to the rear bulkhead with two straps. All the early spridgets with the removeable top frames (bugeye excluded) stored the tops and bows (in their storage bags) in the trunk (boot).

Thanks Biff,

I do have a follow up question, does anyone know where to get the correct "Cumulus Grey" paint for the top frame pieces?

The Grey in Krylon spray cans is pretty close. It's a light grey color.

Hehe, Ace hardware.

Thanks guys,

I have another question for you, where would i find a storage bag for my top? Also the storage bag for the top frame? I see that vic british, and moss don't carry them anymore. Thanks, chad

Sorry, can't help with the storage bag issue, but where in KY are you?

Chad,

The top storage bag and the top bow bag are not available. I have a drawing that gives the sizes and views of the storage bags for the top, side curtains, jack/tools, and tonneau. The top bag and tonneau bags were made of a gray cloth. If you want a copy I can send it to you. The top bow bag is something you will have to find as an original surviver. I found one on fleabay a few years ago that I use with my modified bugeye top bow. Ace brand gloss gray spray is close to the original Cumulus, but is a little lighter in shade.

Hi Biff, i'm very interested in the plans etc, for the top storage bag, thanks, chad

Hey trevor jessie,

I'm in Lexington, lets keep in touch, thanks, chad

Do you know Paul Dollopf(sp?)?

Also, any close up picture to show me as close as possible to what the original grey cloth looked like would be great. I have only seen one picture of the top bag, and its in the Midget/Sprite Original series book, it looks more black to me, but maybe its grey, kinda hard to see exactly from that one photo, anyway, thanks

I've found a source that remakes the folding frame bag, they are in Australia and looks like it will be about 85.00 + shipping etc,
