Every time I see one of those, it reminds me of when I was in Kansas City back in 1957. They had a Berkley dealer there and I came close to buying one. I can't remember the price, but I know it wasn't very much at the time. I don't even remember why I didn't buy one. Probably because common sense took over. :jester:

Probably a good thing common sense prevailed. Price then was about $1695 for a 2 cylinder. The dealer probably would been Perry Motor Imports or Isetta of KC.

I have some Berkeley dealer history here.

The page Nial referenced is indeed excellent.

Hi Paul,

I too visited that Berkeley dealer in KC, as I remember down about 43 (or Westport Rd.) & Broadway, in '59 or '60. I too nearly bought one but it was a bit "tight" for a young single guy.

I ended up with a Volvo PV 544 in 60. THAT was a great car !

HERE is an actual picture of it just after I got it.

253 MPH Berkley !

Below is a picture of Alabama Keith Turk's 253+ MPH Berkeley.
It's a Berekely from the doors back.

Keith currently holds his class record at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Re: 253 MPH Berkley !

Not really a Berkeley anymore (or ever) is it. More of a Berkeley funny car.

It is more of a Berkeley than those plastic Healey kit cars or the rear engined VW plastic MGs or any of the other kit cars that purport to be something that they are not.

At least Keith's Bonneville Berkeley has a REAL Berkeley butt and an ORIGINAL Berkeley title.

It is really a neat car. I sat in it, but have never seen it run. One of these days I'll get to Bonneville when Keith is there.

I went to Bonneville last September to see the 2 Austin Healeys run.
HERE are the pictures.

Bonneville is something that EVERY motorhead ought to do...
