ncbugeye now like the pocket rocket she should be

ncbugeye was not happy. Compression fine, timing spot-on, ignition good, fuel clean, idling cleanly under 1000 rpm, but still not revving right in gear and under throttle.

So, after fiddling for ever myself and not finding out what was wrong I eventually succumbed and took ncbugeye to visit the nice Mr Carl Cason of whom many may have heard, a legend of the Sprite racing biz for at least 3 decades. I left her with him for a couple of days and without a single part being replaced, she is a completely new car.

She revs cleanly to 5750 (according to the mech-tach) in 2nd and 3rd, and and indicates 75 mph (on the wavy speedo) in top with (apparently) more to spare.

The transformation is incredible, and bearing in mind this is a 48-year-old car with a 33-year old engine, that ain't half bad.

Carl said he just adjusted mechanical linkage of the carbs and lubricated the throttle cable, and straightened a few things out. Nothing major, but I just missed it.

Wow, does this baby fly now, or what? Loud, as well, actually way too loud for my taste.

But heart rate is way up, smile is slightly wider, what little hair remains is slightly more ruffled, a slight perfume of oil and gasoline is about me (SWMBO not so keen on this aspect) and generally life is good.

Stainless steel brake hoses on their way, fuel pump being restored by Mr Dubois. Life is going to get even better...

Fantastic!

Note to self, first Stainless Steel brake hoses, then really fast car

Ahhh, isn't life grand!!

I love it when my lbc is acting properly. We have top down weather so far this weekend, and I'm making the most of it!

Wonderful, I am really pleased for you. Come on down.

Have only had Miss Agatha to about 5500 in second but she wants to go on as well. That just may be enough for the old girl, would hate to break her with under a 100 miles clocked.

If you have a camera take pictures of the linkage and set up. Check and record your timing, and if not electronic ignition, dwell. Use them for future reference.

Hmmm... with LBC's I've always used me butt for reference. If'n it's right, 'Skinny' knows it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Nice to hear of someone feeling the power ncbugeye. As for the loud sound. I have one of those monza mufflers and I like it at an idle but t'is to loud on the highway. I have some ideas for making an old fashioned cable operated "exhaust cutout" for spridgets. That way you can have two different mufflers and pick the one you like. Been checking around and no one makes a cutout that comes even close to suiting me. They are either electrical, expensive, for a 2 inch pipe or larger, or you have to unbolt something like a flange to make it work, or like he old cast iron jc whitney ones, they leak and don't seal good and are loud and defeat their purpose. Mine will be different and fit the spridet.
