This thing is awesome! 60+ knots, Wow! Saw a video of it on TV and wow is all I can say. Not cheap at 208 mil, but what's the price of freedom. I just can't imagine a ship this size doing 60 knots and it's supposed to be loaded with every conceivable high tech piece of machinery available. Hanger deck below helo pad for helicopter storage. If you get a chance to see the sea trials, don't miss it, you'll be amazed at it's speed and maneuverability. PJ

yowser...so are we to assume future intent is to run em over and avoid stand-offs...

That's simply tremendous. Even Jack Sparrow would haul anchor and flee.

There's two different ones. I think one, maybe both are built down here.

You might be thinking of the Norfolk based destroyer James E. Williams, which has been involved in pirate chasing operations.
No where near the speed and maneuverability of the new freedom fighter, which can make a sharp 90 degree turn at full throttle.

The JAMES E. WILLIAMS,

One is conventional looking, but it's super fast. I can't remember the details. made by Northrop I believe. They had something on the local news about it.

AhHa, here's the one your probably thinking of. The US Freedom. I think it's the fastest convential hull type.

That's impressive...

but I'm inclined to thinking that a few "Q-ships"- decoy freighters with a couple of deck guns might be far more effective at attracting the pirates and "disposing" of them... rather more cheaply....

:iagree: not sure why it is the problem it is - even to hire a "security detail." of soldiers of fortune onboard ship has got to be cheaper than ransom - "problem solved."
