Has anyone here ever installed natural gas lines? I'm looking to replace an eletric stove for a gas one and need to tap into an existing gas line. I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but I've never done it before. I have been reading up on it online and it appears to be very straight foward. A pro is NOT out of the question, but that money could be used for many, many more things. Hints, ideas, general thoughts, volunteers, etc......?

I'll catch ach, ee, dubl ell for this but: I've used sweated copper to supply hot water, range and furnace with natural gas. Never had a problem.
 
If you feel confident... sounds great.
Out here you need a cert. gas guy. The state is very picky.
You would hate to have a leak.
If it was something ( connecting a stove, etc. ) that was not going to be covered in a wall or ceiling,
something exposed, I might work on it, but other wise I would leave it to someone that is bonded
and insured. Let them take the liability.
Remember to soap you connections to check for leaks after you are done.

Here in PA I have done my own work. black iron pipe, use pipe dope on the threads, not telfon tape its not code here, gas rated shutoff valve at the stove.

as per code in my city i am supposed to use a licenced contractor for all work.
check your local building codes and make sure you meet the regs and you should be fine.
 
Use flare fittings NOT compression fittings. I like to use refrigeration quality soft copper. Check all your connection for leaks using soapy water. Other than that a piece of cake. Safety First.

I've done it from a tank for BBQ, fireplace logs, etc. but never from a utiity company...you might want to see what they require.
 
Use Flexible pipe. Makes it a snap. Long runs too.

Most places I know of are the same. That's why my comment about takin' flak for copper.

A local rich guy sugar cane farmer/oil gazillionaire for years had his own gas well on his property and supplied his tenants with natural gas for their homes, for a price. Thing is, he was too cheap to add the Mercaptan to the gas and finally got his butt sued off when one of his tenants' home exploded, with no warning, from a gas leak.
 
I've got copper from my tank to fireplace gas logs to BBQ....but, I'm using propane.
