National Parks senior pass - price increase

Just a note to all you BCFers 62 or over who might be interested in a Senior Pass for National Parks. Currently, if you are a senior, you can purchase a senior pass for $10 (if you buy it from a park service location) or $20 if you apply online (a $10 online processing fee??). Anyway, on 28 August, the price for the senior pass will increase to $80 (yes, 8x price increase). So, if you're at least 62 and ever thought of getting a pass, now is the time.

Here for details: https://store.usgs.gov/senior-pass

If you want to save the $10 online registration fee, here is a list of locations that can issue passes:

How long are the passes good for?

Mine is good for life. Disabled, elderly, all that BS. In fact, last trip we needed one, my card was failing (cracked almost all the way across the middle) and they just issued me a replacement for free.

Best 10 bucks you'll ever spend. Here's our local one: Parker River, Plum Island, MA

I use it frequently. National Parks, grab a map and drive right in. Some states give a break with it. Don't leave home without it. National forest camping usually is 1/2 price so often $5. Yea, pit toilets, my wife hates em, but they put them near some of the most wonderful places in this country.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm heading to our local National Rec area tomorrow to get the lifetime senior pass for $10.

A great $10.00 spent at the beach about 6 years ago. 4 of us in the car going into the park and the ranger collecting the entry fee says anyone over 62? Yes I say. So I get out my $10.00 for my pass and everyone in the car gets in free.

Use it every year to get into the parks at the beach.

My wife and I got one a few months back (and each person has to have one as they are not transferrable). The senior pass is a LIFETIME one (unless you lose it). They give you a lanyard to hang from your mirror (and then you insert the card).

You can get it at many national parks. I got it at a park office in downtown Portland. If you go on-line you'll find all the places that sell them.

AARP and others have been talking about this price increase for months, and I was beginning to think that the increase was a hoax. Perhaps the rates will truly rise at the end of August.

I posted a link to a list of all the places that you can get one in my first post. While it is not transferrable, I can enter a park with my car and total of four other people (e.g., wife and two friends, or kids). She did not get one because she is not 62 and the price will increase to $80 by the time she does.

Yes, a car should be fine with one pass.
Sure is a great deal.

We drove to the Wayne National Forest HQ @ Nelsonville, OH today to get my senior pass. I had told my brother about it when Basil first brought it up. My bro just looked at me a little oddly and said "You heard this where again?"
BCF- no fake news.

I just used mine to enter Yellowstone. Touring today in the rain but that should keep the crowds away.
