Right. Now we are in Anno Domini 2007, the year in which Nanjing promises to begin production of the upgraded MGTF.
If/when this actually begins do we actually consider this to be a British Sports Car? Tooling (taken from UK). Design (ditto). Assembly (presumably in Longbridge). Parts (Mfg. in China). What say you all?

Mike, probably just as British as most of the stuff built here can be called "American", given the global parts sourcing.

Agreed. The last time I bought an "American" car it had a Japanese engine and was asembled in Mexico......I will vote to consider it British in the modern sense of a world economy. I do hope they will follow through and assemble these in the UK as well as the promised coupes (who really wants a coupe?)in the USA....

I think that the real test will be behind the wheel. As far as assembly location, I can't remember which are supposed to be where, but some of the models are supposed to be made over in Tulsa, OK. I'm about an hour or so from there, and might just have to check them out. If I can keep the Escort around for a couple of more years, I might go for one of the estates if they are making them. The house keeps waking me up at night and telling me I need to think about where to put stuff for it in a new vehicle.

They're also a little late IMHO with the Miata keeping that market cornered, coupe or roadster.
I personally am excited if they come over here, I think it will renew a lot of interest in MG as a whole.
I'll get even more satifaction driving my BGT or Midget around knowing what I have was built by passionate people with a love for sports cars, and restored and maintained by someone with a love for sports cars.
It's all in the soul of our cars, and our cars have soul. Question is, will these new ones have it?

If it's built in England by English people and the money mostly goes to the English economy, then it's an English car. These cars will be Chinese with a badge they bought the right to use from the British.
