Because of the climate of political correctness now pervading
America, those of us in KENTUCKY will no longer be referred to as
HILLBILLIES.

We ask that you now refer to us as BLUEGRASS-AMERICANS .

Thank you!

Now if you'll excuse me, I got possums to fry.

John, you...you Bluegrass American, you...bless your soul. hehehehe

So, I guess the rednecks in north Alabama will want to be known as DOWNHOME AMERICANS.

Yep, Hazard is in Eastern, Ky. Perry County to be exact. I live about 25 miles from there. We actually always referred to ourselves as Mountain folk. We always thought of people from Tennesee as Hillbillies. If you can't laugh at your self, then your taking life way to seriously.

Agreed... And I give myself PLENTY to laugh about daily!

Yep, my Gramma always told me to never take myself seriously - or anything anybody did or said to me personal - but to always take what I 'did' seriously.

She also said (& I'll never forget these words), "Worrying is an affront to God." I had to go to the dictionary to figure out what 'affront' meant & always wondered where she learned that big word!

OK, then I'm a "displaced bluegrass american"(is the username a clue?) having been born and raised in the backwoods of upstate NY.
But I'll refrain from my P.A./ W.V.A. jokes due to having lived in P.A. and spent some time in the beautiful mountians of West V.A.
Living about 30 minutes from the P.A. border we hear "pennsyltucky" a lot. "stumpjumpers" is another term I've heard.
But I'm proud to say that Ithaca and Watkens Glen helped birth the now famous Old Crow Medicine Show! How'd did mountian music like that ever come out of N.Y.?!!!!
Up here we tend to get called "Woodchucks"
