Mystery Wires Under Dash - ‘66 Sprite

Hi. I recently purchased a 1966 Sprite and found these wires hanging near the steering column. It looks like “Fuel” written. The fuel gauge, speedo, and tach are currently not working. Any tips would be appreciated.

This forum is specific to Big Healeys and you'll get a lot more responses if you post to the Spridget forum.
That said, the terminals shown in the picture are definitely not original, nor do the wires appear to be either.
