Mystery Triumph on Ebay

Also known as a Vanguard in the U.K. etc.

Branded as a Triumph in the US.

I think it was actually a Standard. Has a smaller version of the Spitfire engine. I had a friend that had one of the sedans that he would have given me for free. I passed.

The Standard 10 (and there was a Standard 8 also) were smaller, and yes, had the 948cc Triumph Herald motor (the 8 might of had an 800cc version). They were down right dinky in fact. Made a Morrie Minor look big. Pretty sure this is a Vanguard - had a de-tuned TR2 motor I think.

Yes, this is a Triumph 10 (technically NOT a TR-10, although many called it such), with the 948cc motor that carried over to the early Herald. It was a "rebadged" Standard 10.

This particular car is actually a 1960 model. For the 1960 model year, only the wagon -- with its "new" front end borrowed from the home market Standard Pennant -- was sold in the US as the Herald line was introduced in spring 1960 here.
 
My first saloon car was a 1955 Standard 10, and I shudder to think of it even now. It was a real rust-bucket - a great view of the road was available by moving the driver's side floor-covering. Uuuggh!
They were S-T's answer to the Austin A30 / A35 range.
