TR2/3/3A Mystery part?

I recently had the apron and everything else up front off the TR-3a to replace the radiator, fan, and various other items while I was in there. Now that all I have left to install is the bumper I discovered this item in the parts bucket. For the life of me I don't have the slightest recollection of where this came from during the disassembly process. Any help on what this part is and where it goes?

Had my car apart twice in the 40 years I've owned it and never see anything like that. probably something the PO added.

The more I think about it I may very well be the target of a practical joke here. A little background to explain.

I'm also into R/C model flying. Many of our club members have trailers to haul planes and equipment. One fellow was particularly 'very neat' so everything had it's place. Another guy dropped a lone screw on the floor of his trailer one afternoon. Gary then spent the better part of a week trying to figure out where it came from before he realized he'd been tricked.

Since these guys are in my shop from time to time, I have a sneaky feeling they may have pulled this same routine on me. Since none of you guys have seen this piece before I guess it worked .

In my case, not big ones, just a lot of them. I got tired of trying to work out of the back of my pickup.

RC and cars have always been my passion. Right now I'm in the car phase, but as soon as I finish this TR2 I will shift back over to the RC planes for a few years. Always cool to see what new and nifty things have evolved during my "off" years!
