Who knows where the fuel pickup pipe in my 100-4 fuel tank goes? I can see it drop down next to the drain plug opening (through the sending unit hole) then it disappears into never-never land and I can't figure out how/where it picks up the fuel and sends it on to the pump. The tank has been sloshed and all I can figure is that gunky stuff sealed the bottom pipe opening and I'd like to try to get it opened up. The tank is out on the work bench. Has anyone ever opened a 100-4 tank up to see how the line was fabricated?
 
rossco, MEK is the solvent you need to dissolve tank sealer or varnish. The pick up tube ends about an inch above the bottom. You may be able to pour some MEK into the tube and let it sit over night to see if it dissolves a space around itself where you need to pick up fuel.
 
Ah. Great idea, Brink. Now that I can zero in on the opening I'll try that. I even have some of that solvent on the shelf. I'll prop 'er up and give 'er a shot and see what happens. Thanks for the input.
 
Sloshed and cleaned the tank with M.E.K. and cleared the feeder tube of the slug that was blocking it. I've re-painted the exterior of the tank and am waiting for my new sending unit and gasket. I'll take my chances with future rust; no gooey sealing compound. Thanks for the tip, Brink. By the way, the radiator guy that's been in the business forever, and who also does fuel tank repair, told me nothing would cut that sealer gunk. I'll pass this on to him.
