OK, almost done with my painting in the living room/kitchen; cathedral ceilings so it's taking a while.

Anyway first coat of primer on the windows & told her it needed an hour to dry so I though I'd go start the 250. It's been close to a month. So says she, if you want to go for a warm up ride in the TR why don't you run down to the fish market to pick something for diner.

OK, I say, if I have to so. The TR starts up with a quick jump from the booster. Car comes up to temp as I get my list together & off I go, 30deg, bright sunshine & 3-5" of snow left from our storm a week ago. Roads are nice & dry, so not to worry, plus my car will be needing a resto in the near future, so no problem on my side.

Decide to wimp out & leave the top up cause it's so stiff from the cold.

So I tool down town get the fish & other assorted good stuff before I take my favorite 5 mile back road run through some of the beautiful estates, farmland & parks.

Great twisty turny road with a quick rise & sharp right hander where the road crosses over the railroad.

This is one of those roads that 35-45 is plenty fast & I usually run a good part of it in 3rd, if not just to hear the sound of the exhaust. Have to be careful however as there are the occasional walkers & horses crossing.

Anyhow, what a nice way to breakup the afternoon & come back to get ready to watch the Patriots game.

I know that one... "Honey are you *sure* you don't need anything from the store?". 80 degrees today -- we don't really expect winter here but this is warmer than it oughta be. Glad your end of the world is also getting some driving weather.
 
I didn't have to run an errand, but I needed to change oil on my Cavalier. So I needed garage space. Warmed up the Spit6 and the TR-4A to get them out of the garage. Of course, once out of the garage I had to go for a spin. It was around 40 degrees here in Chicago, and surprisingly the sun was out! It felt good...just what I needed after almost 2 weeks of cold, cloudy weather. I got the oil changed and now the Triumphs are safely back in the garage. I went in the house when finished and my daughter said, "You smell like exhaust!" I said, I know, isn't it wonderful!!!!
It was a nice day....:smile:
 
A friend has an assortment of cars... Healeys, AC, Lotuses, Mini, Sprites -- his wife claims she can tell which one he's been working on by the smell when he comes in the house.

Hi Jim!
I too took advantage of our unusually nice weather and went tooling around for a couple of hours! It was great and the car was running so good! Then I stopped for gas and when I started it up again, no gas gauge. Since tomorrow is going to be nice too I am going to go and enjoy my car some more and forget about the gauge for now since I know I have a full tank! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
When we moved the 3A out of the attached garage to the the autobarn for the winter storage and maintenance, we immediately noticed that the barn now smells like the TR. What a wonderful smell!
(my autobarn is 24x24 post&beam we built for my shop, complete with 4-post lift). sign me, lucky guy.
 
I fired up the TR-6 yesterday and enjoyed a 10 mile spin in 35 degree sunshine that made me long for the warm summer afternoons that will soon be here. If January stays in the 40's as predicted and the roads stay clear, there will be a few more of these afternoon rides coming up.
 
Hi,

I took my wife for a Triumph ride last night, up to the stable that boards her horse. It's about ten or twelve miles, just a quick sprint, but it was the second time I've had the car out since replacing the clutch master cylinder last weekend. It was nice watching the sun go down to the edge of the corn and soybean fields while we motored along. Clutch seems to be working great, wife enjoyed the ride (top UP) because it reminded her of summer days past and also yet to come, and I got a chance to say "hi" to her very woolly Morgan horse.

Sorry, Morgan horses have nothing to do with Morgan cars, except that both are fairly rare, have classic lines, and are quite durable.

I will drive my Triumph every clear day that I can this winter. Unfortunately, here in Ohio, that's about nine or ten days.

I'm jealousy. If I need to run an errand I have take the Ford truck as my TR6 is on on blocks for modifactions, even if it wasn't there's too much salt on the roads here in NY /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Greetings from a fellow Massachusetts resident!
I've been driving my TR6 to work almost every day this winter. When its snowing and and the snow is collecting, I don't take it in, but the rest of the days it takes me on the 50+ mile round trip commute with no problems. I know the salt, sand and frozen snow is not good for it, but there's nothing like driving the 'Anti-Hummer' in the winter.
 
I was just thinking of taking the TR-250 to work this week. We had snow a month or so ago, but all of the salt has been washed away by rain, and this week promises to be sunny with highs in the upper fifties! So, perhaps a mid-winter romp!
 
know I said this somewhere before on this site, but when my then fiancé' & I had our 1st TR250 in mid-late 70's it was an everyday driver. I found a pair of Semperit studded snows on the top shelf of the auto parts place I worked in. If I remember correctly the TR was my only car for a year or so, till I picked up my '71 Subaru 2wd Sta Wag, which was great in the snow.

Anyhow, I wish I had some photos of my S.O. & I heading up to the ski slopes with our skis on the clamp on Ski rack on my luggage rack.

That car sure was scary at 65 going over the bridges with "bridges freeze before roads" sign!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
 
Skis on the back of your 250! Those would be great photos!! I've got an old BMC ad from the late 1950s with an MGA (likely super-imposed) on a snowy road in Sugarbush, Vermont (where I grew up). It has the old enclosed gondolas in the background that I remember as a kid. It would be great to collect photos of Triumphs in daily use through the years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
 
You know, they really don't do too bad in the snow.

Ground clearance is an issue, but if there are only a few inches of snow a TR6 is just as good (or bad) as any 2 wheel drive pickup. It's actually better than my 2WD Ford Ranger which can get stuck on wet pavement..

My only complaint about winter commuting in a TR6 is it is hard to keep heat in the cabin. I've looked into hardtops on-line but I don't want to pay $500 plus shipping for a fiberglass top or $750 - $1000 for a factory hardtop. I'm only into the car for $5000.

It might be worth the investment if you plan to continue using it in the winter. My factory hardtop makes a huge difference in retaining heat. I also improved on its insulative properties by removing the headliner and adding insulation above it, then re-installed the headliner. If you go that route, make sure you have good seals on the firewall and the transmission tunnel, otherwise you can trap fumes as well as heat. I even vapor sealed the rear panel area to the gas tank and trunk.

Weather for tomorrow is supposed to be great -- partly sunny and warm, with dry roads. The TR-250 may get a trip to work in the a.m.! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I had a meeting with a client yeterday for lunch and Lil Red fired right up after a month of garage sleep and created a stir at the resturant. Of course it was a bit chilly but that didn't keep me from dropping the top - well, it IS a roadster after all. It was great!
