Well; It started out as a Really Good Day! Went to the Post Office & Some Older Women was backing out of her parking space and Backed right into My Drivers Side Door!

I was Blowing the Horn, Screaming etc etc: She just kept on Coming & I had No where to go!

So; I`m in need of a Drivers Side Door for a `66 TR4A: Must be in Exc Cond: I would like to pick it up in the Northeastern, PA Area; If Possible! I know Shipping costs would be Ugly & Who really wants to ship a Door No Less!!

Out of curiosity: Does our auto insurance cover
replacement parts from accidents?

I carry full premium policy, regular car insurance
on my 1969 TR6 .

I've been where you were today. Helpless as someone
backed into me and crunched me.

I carry "Classic Car Ins" that covers me from Head to Toe; 100%: The Appraiser will be here in a couple of days; That`ll be Interesting! I have a Couple of Estimates that I got Today to Show the Appraiser; After He Appraises the Car!

Man Mark, If It were a "Buick"; I would probably have a "Totaled Car" on my hands! Which probably would`nt be a Bad thing as I have an "Agreed Upon Value Ins. Coverage for $20K"!! It was an `04 PT Cruiser:

Most of the vintage auto insurance guys are pretty good about paying for repairs...don't tell him that you found a used door for $50.00 and your buddy can paint it for another $100.00!

Get a real appraisal and insist that the check is made out to you...with $$$ in hand you can shop for parts and a competent paint shop.

Crypt Car streetable again. The "Boss" has pretty
much cut off further funding of DPO Pedro's
car from heck..

I spoke to My Body Guy Today regarding just that issue of getting an Estimate etc:

I`m way ahead of you (So Is My Body Guy) in "Not Voluntering" any info that would save the Insurance Co some Money! This is My 1st Claim in over 30yrs of being with the same Ins. Co. I believe I`m due one!!

Well; Its been really "Wet" here in the NE PA Area: Today they are calling for Sunshine & Mid 60`s but It sure don`t Look It!! Next wk Mon - Wed, Rain!!

Anyways; Rec`d. a call from the Ins. Co. The "Appraiser" will be here Mon - Wed: I`m really going to play "Stupid" and Volunteer "NO" info at all: I`ll wait for Him to give me an "Agreed Upon Decision" relative to the Repairs:

I know what its going to cost me now!

And, you don't have "collector car" insurance? Regular auto insurance generally won't pay to repair like a Haggerty or American Collector (mine).

Your Correct! The Person who backed into me is Liable (Or at least her Ins Co) for taking care of the Damages:

She only has "Regular" Car Ins / I have "Antique / Collector Car Ins": The "Regular" Car Ins Co. cannot track back that Far (Meaning 1966 or Triumph for that Matter) and come up with an "Appropriate Estimate"! They just simply have "No Clue" as to how to "Appraise" the TR4A: The "Door" is N/A from any Suppliers, Anywhere!

Therefore; I needed to report the "Incident" to My Ins. Co. & they take care of My Car (Appraiser coming Tomorrow)relative to Monies: Then, They go after the "Regular Ins Co" to get their Funds Back:

Will keep you folks posted;

Well; We have "GOOD NEWS AND WE HAVE BETTER NEWS"!!!

The Appraiser was over Yesterday & came up with a Figure to "Repair" the Door!

They scouted, (They had to look for a Door), the Country for a Door; No Luck of Course! They searched Moss & British Victoria:

Only recourse is to "Repair It"! I brought the Car to My Body Shop Friend & He really did`nt say very much: The Appraiser did All the talking and Figuring & This is the result! They will be forwarding to Myself, In My Name, (Not the Body Shop), a Check in the amount of $4.5K!!!

Make My Day Why don`t Ya;

Well isn't that good news....what company do you have your coverage through? Most are really pretty easy to deal with...good to hear you made out OK.

This is My First Claim, Ever! They responded Immediately & I heard from the Appraiser the Next Day: He physically came out to see the car within 3 days:

He was Very Professional / No Questions asked / Made All the Suggestions to My Body Guy / Replace or Repair:

Whomever may have an Interest: Their Ph. # is: 1-800624-4688: Ask for "Andrew" / Cust. Ser. /

It does`nt Cost anything to get a Competitive Quote: Make certain you get an "Agreed Upon Value"! The Car "MUST" be Orig. You`ll need to submit 4 Pics of the Outside; 1 Pic of the Int & Engine Bay: Remember, Originality Counts!

Condon and Skelly have been around a long time. I've used J.C. Taylor in the past as well as Hagerty. Some companies (J.C. Taylor and others) always had limitations on the coverage on modified cars but most will now write a policy on them at a reasonable price.

Shop around. Many local agents can also write policies with the 'big guys' and give a little more personal service.
