Andrew: IMHO those things are hideous! You need them for a correct restoration so I have mine in storage in case I ever sell my car. Five fake lug nuts...please. I would say it was a LATE sixties attempt to tap into the US muscle car look and freshen up a body style that was long in the tooth, while awaiting the TR6.

They are neat, but I gather that the hard part is in finding the fake knock-offs.
 
When I bought my TR-250, one hubcap was in the boot. After I got it home, the first time I was going to take it out for a spin around the neighborhood, I put the hubcap on -- took the first corner and it flew off!!!

I took the hubcap and car home and using a small hammer, I knocked the retaining pins up a little. Never flew off again -- even on bumpy Houston streets.

That being said, I still think wires look the best, but the hubcaps scream TR-250 (although they were available on early '69 TR-6s.)
 
Looks like some good thoughts out there.

I had that debate and went for the chrome wires. I didn't want to be storing a set of four "alternative" wheels and tires for the off-chance I'd want to change them. If I ever contemplate a long road trip in my 4A I might think about the Min-lites, and I do like the way they look. If I go that route, I'll buy new wheels, new tires, and replace the shortened lug nuts at that time. And if I want to do it, I will--then. And I'll buy the spacers then, too.

Andy, yes those were the ones I spoke of. I agree, the fake knock-offs are hard to find. I happened to find mine at a muscle car swap meet at Randolf fair grounds a few years back. Only one was an original, the other three were close enough to work with. I have seen many adaptations of non-original knock-offs being used over the years.
 
Wow! Thanks so much for all the replies! I think I may go for Option #4. I really appreciate everyone's advice! With TR-250 prices climbing, I think I'd like the flexibility of being able to switch back to the original steel wheels and Rostyles if need be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

One quick question on those aluminum wheels on ebay -- how do the missing lock nuts attach to the wheels?
 
I have the Rostyles on my 250, I love the look, like someone else said Rostyle=TR250. But, I will be switching to Superlites this spring as the 35+ years of Illinois Roads has been unforgiving on the steel wheels, the rostyles will remain in the garage with the steel wheels.
 
I vote for the knock-off Mini-lites (#5)... My second choice would be painted wires.
 
Well Bill I can relate to your dilemma, but I'm guessing that if you can afford a concours 3000, Z4 and a 250 you can probably spring for all three types of rims. However, I believe that wires look the best. I have them on my 250.
