Spent it fiddlin' to replace th' speedo shaft seal on a pal's Caterham 7, goofin' with squitterin' grease into trunions and U-J's, etc.

You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to get a Seven securely onto a lift. I've lifted Rollies and Porsches with that thing... we had to "re-invent th' wheel" to get that less-than 1800 pound widget in th' air. THAT took longer than actually FIXIN' the thing!

Much fun in any case.

OH!! And today was th' first time we've actually seen th' under-side of it since he got it two years ago. Whoever the guy was who assembled that car needs to be recognized. A masterful job. It's a Caterham and has been put together with true craftsmanship.

It was 88 degrees today and nearly 80 yesterday. The TR6 is still under it's cover as I work to complete the house remodeling. I keep telling myself that its still only April. Plenty of driving time starting next month.

I took my mom to the emergency room for tests to make sure her long term congestion was not pneumonia or congestive heart failure. Tests came up negative, so it looks like antibiotics and Flonase will be the treatment. Need to get her well for her 90th birthday in May...

Drove back from Las Cruces NM to Clovis...330 miles. Mountains, White Sands Missle range, Indian reservation...lots of desert. Went to a gatering of LBCs..ty[ical...Jag owners in one corner...Mini folks hanging together...MG owners clumped up etc. Most people looking at my CGT asking if it was "real" I told a few people it was a VW kit car. One guy complained because my engine bay wasn't hospital clean. I don't go to these things for that reason...I doubt I'll ever go to another get-together...I guess I was meant to stay at the shop and work.

The original plan for my Sunday was to ride my motorcycle down to the city and do a recording session (my vocal parts), then go for a ride with my friend.

But it snowed.

So it was drive the nice heated car to Salt Lake for the session. At least we got that part done. Thick ice on the car this morning. Stupid cold weather.

Jack, I never understood those particular club people. Our local club welcomes anyone (it's multi-marque) and any vehicle. I've done more club events in my old Hyundai than in a LBC.

Jack, mess with all of their minds next time and show up with a Jag, a Mini a MG AND a VW kit car.

"Jack, I never understood those particular club people. Our local club welcomes anyone (it's multi-marque) and any vehicle."

I suspect the clustering comes from not knowing much, if anything, about the other cars and not wanting to look "dumb". It's easier to appear "elitist" than to admit you don't know anything. How hard is it really to ask "Is this your car? Tell me about it...."? I do it all the time at shows.

Three guys came over to do the spring checklist on my TR3 for me because I'm so disabled it's hard to do it myself. They got it on jackstands and changed the oil O.K.

One insisted that the brake fluid needed changing. I bled the rears last summer when I installed new wheel cylinders, but not the fronts. So we decided to bleed the calipers until new fluid came out.

Well, the right side bleeder was frozen and one of them snapped it off. Ouch.

He went home and returned with some kind of golly gee whiz bang frozen bolt taker-outer which didn't work.

Then they bled the caliper by loosening the bridge pipe.

Bleeding the left side went well, but he thought that the pads were too worn and wearing more than the right side. He tried to push the piston back into the cylinder in order to install new pads, but it wouldn't go back. It wasn't frozen, just wouldn't go into the cylinder.

"I just rebuilt those calipers", I thought. Then I did some thinking and realized that that was 15 years ago!

Today I took both calipers to a shop for rebuild. I'll pay someone to rebuild them this time. They said they can get the frozen bleeder out.

I know the guys had good intentions, but it is still a bummer when things go wrong.

Ya know.... I just flashed back to a very spirited run around Watkins Glen International last fall co-piloting a certain blue TR3, and got a touch light headed reading this......
hehehehe....
here's to smooth repairs John.

Sunday was average here, but saturday was great. being in the mid 80s for the first time this spring, I popped the top on the CJ and caravaned with my parents in thier MGB up to Watkins Glen. We hiked the Glen Gorge Trail (always awsome), hung out at Seneca lake and dipped our hot feet in the icy water than a few brave souls were actually swimming in! and topped it of with a frozen custard from The Great Escape ice cream parlor ( a must do if ever in Watkins).
the town was packed wit people visiting the still-closed parks, and enjoying the weather. I spotted a TR6 and a Bugeye sprite (not bad for April), and there were bikes! motorcycles EVERYWHERE! it was like Daytona bike week! It almost made me wanna get another bike. then I hopped in the Jeep, without leathers, without a hot helmet, and beside by daughter so we could still talk... Maybe someday I'll get another bike.
then back at home, Dot and I ventured out again to an open field and flew a kite in the warm breeze. Good day!

Didn't happen to get any pics, did ya? Would love to see the craftsmanship...

I ditched church and went White Water Rafting down the Kings River out of Pine Flat resevoir.

It was great. It was cold. I had a great time.

Then I took the engine down all the way, and am ready for what happens next on the TR3A.

Life is good.

Don't let the Bastards get you down - they don't know Jack!!!

Be well,

Cheers.

Jack what is a "CGT?" Don't want to seem dumb but... Actually I was going to go to Las Cruces this year but husband and I wanted to complete our garage renovation. I'm told it was fun. To be candid, I don't like showing for many reasons, all of which are probably not important. I do, however, enjoy telling anyone who's interested all about Agatha. I showed her in Las Cruces the first year of her renovation (2003) and she took 1st and upon my husband's prodding to her a local museum car show where she also took a 1st which then put me into the "elite" class in 2004. While she did very well (2nd), I hated being in this class and the competition was tow and show vehicles and by some guy coming up to me and telling me I was his only competition. Gads, thought I was back in the world of 'cat' showing. Agatha is and will continue to be a driver. Not that I won't tow her long distances because I will but she is a driver and as you probably know is very comfortable at our local WalMart or transfer station. In short I take her everywhere. As an f/y/i I have a sign that I put on her which says: "Please don't judge me, enjoy me and ask my caregiver about me- she loves to tell everyone my story." Agatha A Healey

I'm sorry you didn't seem to enjoy yourself and I do understand your feelings. I hope our Roadrunner Healey people welcomed you! They truly are a good bunch and are all about just enjoying their Healeys.

Please tell me what a "CGT" is and allow me to dust your engine should we ever meet at an LBC gathering.
