My Sprite dodged a bullet

Early this afternoon I was sitting here in my room typing up a long email when I heard an unmistakable noise outside.
BANG - followed by a horn blaring that wouldn't quit.
I look out the window and find a green car came around the corner too fast and hit... the great big Dodge Ram truck parked behind my Sprite!!!

Now it was some small green car but it hit hard enough to move the back of the truck over about 3 feet.

One of the kids inside was bleeding, I grabbed the phone and hit 911 while I was heading out to assist.
We got the kid inside and applying pressure to his wounds.
I had him sit and when he started looking very pale I asked him to please lay down on the floor.
He started feeling a bit better, then the EMT's arrived.

It turns out the driver just got the car a couple days ago.
His first car, spent all his money and was "going to get insurance" on Wednesday when he gets paid.
He said he hit the brakes but they failed.
Yes, I mentioned that's what an E brake is there for...

Thankfully they were both wearing seat belts and both air bags deployed. The passenger was playing with his new $800 laptop when it happened. Looks like it went through a grinder.

So, police, fire dept, Aid car - loads of excitement.

Oh - and the driver? Turns out he's dating one of my daughters. I guess his driving career is just about over before it started. Our state has a law about driving uninsured, and it's even worse for uninsured accidents.

Thanks for sharing. Helps me put my "chaotic" day in perspective.

What is it about you guys from the NODoody group up north? that's THREE of you with hit cars... two in the driveway minding their own business... I don't want to be next!

Glad to hear everyone (including your Sprite) is okay.

Y'all up in the Northwest need to get garages for your Spridgets.

He wouldn't be dating my daughter anymore, unless she drove! :yesnod:

Actually someone who feels they can beat the system until they can get the Insurance, even for a few days is not showing any responsibity. They are not taken life seriously.

I was that way when I was young. and trust me you didn't want me dating your daughter or running with your son. It was all about me.

Yep, that's about it

With our system he will be getting a summons in the next few days and then have a mandatory court appearance. If he fails to show he will be arrested.
When he shows up he will find the judge to be very unforgiving, this judge is very big on personal responsibility.
The truck he hit has a repair estimate of $2200 - he will have to pay for that.
The court will charge him with the uninsured accident, driving while uninsured and maybe reckless driving and there may be something thrown in for the injury to his passenger.

Welcome to adulthood - he is 18 years old, this was his first car. He had made an appointment to go in and pay for his insurance on Wednesday, his mistake was thinking he could skate a few days until then.

The lady had her big-azzed truck parked in front of a hydrant, it totally blocked the impact from my Sprite.

I got to provide assistance to a kid who was hurt but wasn't the cause of the crash, I felt good about that. I got to have 10 to 15 paramedics and officers in my home, that was fun. I got to see my wife come home to a couple fire trucks, half a dozen police cars, an aid truck and a big mess on the road out front.
Then find out nobody was hurt badly and the one kid who was hurt wasn't hurt badly. (and wasn't "our kid")

All in all, not a bad outcome at all. I had my share of wrecks when I was a teenager. All's well that ends well....

Happy Holidays!
Larry :savewave:

Did they cite the lady for parking in front of a hydrant?
I would hope that she'll never do that again.

Hate to say this to all you crash guys. I am just a bit over 72 now and have never been involved in a crash. Been some real close ones though,

Yes, I believe it was a $500 bill for her parking there.

I wasn't involved in this accident other than witnessing it and providing care and assistance to the injured.

Earlier in my life I had a time when I paid too little attention to safety and just wanted to go fast. I had to experience a lot of trouble before I learned the right lessons.

Now I'm pretty boring, unless I'm taking the Midget out for a shakedown run after making some modification...

I don't know if he thanked the truck owner, but I sure did.
I know she thought it was strange, but she knew it would have been much worse if her truck wasn't there!

Glad it turned out well for you! Too bad for the kid and the (relatively) innocent truck. I learned a few lessons the hard way, as well.

Merry Christmas, all!
