My "pink wire" car is bein' NASTY!

Yup, me too. Five pounds of metal danglin' from th' iggy switch! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

That was my ~first~ thought. But I could NOT induce an intermittant "open" condition (analog VOM on switch) no matter WHAT I did with that key. It feels nice and tight, the lock/barrel is good 'n snug. I've not loaded the keyfob with aught but the door/trunk key in the nine years it's been in my care. I'm fairly confident the lock/switch is still reliable. Not so confident that relay is. I'll do a "biopsy" on the relay when I've got a new Bosch one in-situ.

I am just giving you food for thought! I am sure that you will sort it out...blimmy electrics. Good luck.
Cheers, David.

1. Check/clean bellhousing to frame ground strap ... both ends.
2. Larger wire from Alt. to junction box ... clean terminals.
3. Unplug-clean-replug all Marelli terminals - coil/dizzy.

Fucile da caccia! (I say - shotgun, shoot 'im fore he runs now, do the Jerk baby, do the Jerk now!).

Cheers!

DocE,

Don't know diddly about an Alfa but found this,

Read third post down. Sometin about a inner fender junction box on a 78 Alfa. The fix sounds kinda drastic though.

https://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/showthread.php?t=11381

I'm "registered" on that board, last check-in was April '06. The junction mentioned was the first place I checked... as soon as the problem started.

Thanks Harry. I have a hard time dealin' with 'regular' Alfisti. Nothin' like the BCF crowd. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

It'll be the relay.

TWO ground straps on this one: bellhousing and at the motor mount (ala MGB!). No grounding or alternator issues.

The Marelli diz was "deep-sixed" in favor of a good Bosch single points unit on rebuild in 2000. The Marelli ones die in 98% humidity conditions. Nevermind here inna tropics. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

"ARR EEE ELL AY WHYYY!!!!"

Ma calme adown doctore, no matta watta you stilla looka goood behindada wheel evene sittinna steel! jus asmile ana wave atta people! is a bella machina (keepa repeat dis!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Once again it pooped out... thirty seconds after a warm start. Went nearly a month without a hint, then *BINK!*... no-go condition. Upped the bonnet, jiggled the iggy wiring to/from coil: 'VROOM!'. Lit off like it always should.

... I think I'm sneakin' up on it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Now the test light is aboard and in easy reach. I want to ~know~ I've isolated the gremmy responsible. Wholesale parts change-out would impart false sense of security. It runs FINE 99.99% of the time. Quite a challenge, this.

Now a month of trouble free running. I think I've exorcised the pookah!

Coil LT connectors. All shiny-pretty now and not a hint of the prob. Now it's on to the oil pressure issue, which I think is actually an electrical one as well... low voltage to the instruments. we'll see.
