TR2/3/3A my OD stopped working after it was working

Steve, are you letting it build pressure between engagements? You must drive about a mile to get the accumulator fully charged.

I was so glad the OD worked on the last run that I have not driven since. Besides, I had the cover off and figured for the freeway I need to put the cover back. I think I went into OD at 2nd gear and back out for the down shift of the O.D. then I think I did that one more time, so more like a ½ mile. After that, I feel to my knees and prayed and told God I would never shift into OD again unless it was absolutely necessary.

Steve

Turned out to be the power feed wire to the solenoid. Bullet connector de-soldered in the spaghetti wiring behind the dash.
Exactly what happened to me three months ago. Hard to imagine a little bullet connector forced me to remove the seats, the dash console, the carpeting, the tranny tunnel . . . . . . What I do now when these things happen is to put on my best Classic Rock station, my ripped up mechanics garb, grab a cold drink and just go at it, realizing I own a Triumph, not a Chevy, and how nice it all is.

Well nobody like my religious appeal. I thought it was funny and true, parts of it. Anyways thanks you John for taking the time to explain what you learned about the A type OD. The knowledge is not common and most of it is difficult to access.

I am putting the seats and trany cover on hopefully for a while this time, right KVH. I plain to drive the car around, and get a feel of the car again, then maybe easy into how the OD works because it is Spring. I like the one mile idea between shifts; it makes sense and sounds like a good bench mark. I am actually surprised that an over-drive unit even works. It looks to me like a hydraulic explosion waiting to happen. I was very surprised how well it performed after I had the adjusted the pinch bolt. The OD was really getting a hit from the engagement before and somehow the tranny can take it like no big deal.

The weather is getting nicer; we have these beautiful summers, but the rain always come back.

Steve
