Here is a 69 that i started the restoration on 2 days ago. The new floors are in and the minor body rust will be next.I have always wanted to do a primrose yellow car. The floors went in fairly easy. More pics coming as i make progress. Bob

Nice start, Bob...

Whats the chances the sills are gone if the floors had rust? Might as well do them too...

Newkie

left side is good and the right side rocker panel has to be replaced. both dog legs and lower front fenders need some work. If the castle rails, trunk floor and quarter panels above the rear wheels are good then its all simple repairs to me. The car has been parked since 86. I cleaned the points and put fuel in the carb float bowls and put a battery in it. It started right up. It will be a great core engine to build. I will try to post a pic of the 72 MGB that just rolled out of the garage. More later, Bob

Hey! '69 MGB with wire wheels!

I've got one of those!

Mine was painted by the previous owner about 20 years ago (and then, mostly parked in his garage).
Not sure of the exact colour (looks sort of "off white" to me).
I did a quick and dirty resto and drove it 2000 miles this year.
Everyone in my family wants to borrow it.
Good luck with your's!

Here is a shot of the yellow 69 on the rotisserie. The body is in final primer and now for the scrape and clean and yellowing of the underbody. bob

yesterday i sprayed some of the black parts. The Explorer is full of powder coated suspension and the heater and under hood black bits. Its starting to shape up. I only mess with the car when its not freezing cold in the garage. Bob

Are the pars in the pic powder coated or painted? If painted, what did you use? Those are nice and glossy and looks like a really nice project.

The parts in the pic are acrylic enamel. I try not to use spray bombs.I can do nicer looking paint than the powder coat. Also BLACK powder has a bit of a brown cast. The parts in the pic are things like a steering rack, shocks, rear springs and king pins...parts i would not send to have powdered. This stuff will look good up to the primrose yellow on the underside of the car. Bob

I am impressed!! That's a BUNCH of work in the last 3 months!!

Nice work, Bob, you certainly are an experienced restorer.

You've gotta be retired to have that much time to work on the car!
:yesnod:

And, please fill out your profile so we'll know who you are, Bob.

I had my entire front end (sans Rack, calipers, shocks spindles) powder coated black. They did a really good job for what they started with and the color is truly black. The other parts I want to do but to get the gloss level to match, is my next goal.

What acrylic enamel do you use?

The acrylic enamel i used was ACME. It is sold thru Shermin Williams. I was strictly PPG till they moved out of the area. I am trying SW paints now. As far as black powder wait till you put it up against real automotive paint. Then you can really tell its got a different cast. I had a complete inner body and chassis powdered in black for a tr4 and had to respray the engine bay so it would match the outer body. As far as a profile....well i am a former british car rebuilder. My main trade is in body repair and mechanicals come in second. I do all my own mechanicals except diffs and machinist work. I would like to be employed again but that would take up most of my free time. bob

I've got the under the hood parts still to do, MC cover & pedal frame, the air cannisters, Heater box, radiator support...I think that's it. I'm doing those next but am not going to powder those. I'm not showing the underside with mirros so a few bits painted will be fine.

What was your prep technique so I can get started on my under hood stuff?

I degrease, sand or sandblast-depending on the part, then prime, and paint. I will be mixing the powder and paint under the car and even in the engine bay. Any work i can get done at the powder shop definately goes in that direction. When i get all the powder parts out of the Explorer i will lay them out and post a pic and the price i paid to have it done. bob

Here are more up to date pics. The passenger compartment floors are painted and the underbody is also painted. I will try to do the engine bay, trunk and door jambs this afternoon. If y'all get bored with the restoration pics just let me know. bob

No Bob;

We won't get bored with your restoration pictures.
JEALOUS maybe, but not bored.
Good looking car, but then, I've seen your work from years ago, and have come to expect this level of job.
Is this car a keeper, or are you going to sell it?

Dave

Dave, I will find a new home for it at some point. I have always wanted to do a primrose yellow MGB. I think the black interior, black suspension and red engine with chrome wire wheels will really make the yellow stand out.

Sound outstanding.

Keep the pics coming!

Dave :savewave:
