General Tech My New Horn Relay

I've a had a great horn for about a week. I installed a new relay last week. Today, while driving, my horn suddenly just came on and stayed on. Solid blaring. I pulled to the shoulder and disconnected a couple of wires from the horn relay. It was hot. What does this all mean? My relay, brand new, is defective?

I hate to offer this up, but I did adjust my steering wheel alignment last week. Maybe I tore up the purple ground wire when I pulled the wheel a few inches out toward me, before pushing it back in? Sort of a wild theory, but this sudden horn malfunction has me wondering.

Also, don't hold me to this, but I think when a pulled the purple ground wire off the relay, the horn stayed on for at least another second while I pulled off another wire. Now, of course, with everything cooled down, the relay seems to be working fine.

Any ideas? CJD?

See, you can't go away for quite some time.

Further: I checked my steering wheel, purple wire as best I could. All looks fine. I tend to believe it's a defective relay. I did jump C-2 to W-2, as I believe that was the correct thing to do, and my horn did work fine, and does now that it's all cooled down.

So I pulled the new one out and put my 59 year old one back in after opening up the case and filing the points clean. Works perfect every time.

Once again, new isn’t better, and may well be worse. A little sad to say.
