Well, they all fit, now don't they!

I was cleaning up the garage today, and was not happy with the amount of snow melt from our truck that was running all over the garage floor. My biggest concern was with the Bugeye bonnet that was resting up against a wall. Since I won't be working on it for a while, I had a neighbor help me and put it back on the car.

After a moments thought, I decided it was time to try an experiment. So A few parts were relocated to the shed, and I did some shuffling around. Now my car, my wife's truck, the Tunebug, and my Bonneville all fit in the garage. It's a wee bit tight (your standard 20' x 20' garage), but workable for a couple of months of winter. Car dollies are a very good thing!

I had measured this all out once, but this was the first time I was able to try it all out.

You need a 4-post lift!

I have plans for a 22' x 26' garage that I hope to have built next year with the same configuration / floor plan. Then my neighbor built a garage with a truncated roof, which gives extra ceiling height....now that lift will fit!!

What I really need is the 16'x20' shed/garage that I plan to build on our property next summer, finances and zoning laws allowing. I really want to get the car and bike out of the main garage entirely.

I did measure once for a 4-post lift, and there's just not enough height to make it work.

Drew;
Tight fit.. but it works.... i did something similar, i will get a pic if possible... good work !!!

Drew,

Not moving? You have a great house in a really nice town.
Either way - I wish you the best.

I would consider getting some old tires and putting them up against the bugeye. Or putting some sort of stops on the floor to prevent accidentally pulling in a bit to far. A 4x4 bolted to the floor has to be cheaper than bodywork!

Thanks, Doug. We're staying put; in the end we couldn't sell for enough, and we do like where we are. So now we're on to improving our existing place.

We've got markers hanging from the ceiling that hit the car window as you pull in--that should keep us properly aligned and away from the Tunebug. It's about a 3 month solution, so I don't want to drill into the floor.

Drew, that's similar to my garage. It was built as a two car, but I have a big Ford Sedan (Ford 500), a MINI Cooper, a big motorcycle and an MG Midget in it.

I might be able to get another motorcycle in there, but not much else!

A full garage: nothin' better! :yesnod:

Glue a 2*4 or better yet 4*4 with latex caulking it will come off with a good blow with a hammer latter and of course no holes.

When you build, consider a 24'x30' size. That will give room for the cars plus some shop/tool space. I built mine at 24' square and wish I had made it 24'x40' now.
Or 30'x50'.
Or 40'x60'.
STOP! STOP!STOP!

Here's another alternative....

My basement is my garage with 2 garage doors. Its 28' x 48' and its not enough room. There is never enough room. The more room the more sh.. Uh, neat stuff you buy to fill it up. I got the midget, my truck, 2 motorcycles together and one in pieces plus all kinds of junk that I have stored.

50'x100'

I'll go as big as will fit on my property, but figuring on about 16' x 20' given the space available. It only needs to hold one LBC, one motorcycle, and a workbench. I have a very strict one-project-at-a-time rule, so one car at a time is my limit.

I'm okay limiting my stuff -- too much stuff and it starts to own you, rather than the other way around.

Oh, yeah. I resemble that remark.

If you remove your house, you'll have more room onna' property. Folding cots minimize space too.

I used to work for the advertising department of Morton Buildings Inc. I traveled around the country for them doing still and video photography including video interviews of building owners. Everything from custom horsebarns with indoor riding arenas (including a few with 100' clear-span arenas) to custom farm shops, farm machinery storage, mini-malls, Churches, at least one Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and several "suburban out buildings", AKA garages. The one thing every owner agreed they would change if they were to build the building over again was that they would MAKE IT BIGGER.

Lawn is just space where no garage has been built yet!
