My nephew got his 3rd degree Saturday night and is now a Master Mason. This makes me a very proud uncle. The little guy (he is now 6'6" and 240) had been asking me about my ring since he was about 6 years old. Saturday night I had the honor and pleasure of presenting him with the ring he had asked about and that I had worn for 22 years and my father had worn for 10 years before me. I know he will wear it with the same pride I always did.

Congratulations! I know you are proud!!!

John,

Congratulations from a two term Past Master. As Master of a Lodge, the MM degrees that I always enjoyed the most and I presided over four in my time, were the ones that had fathers and sons involved. Especially when grandfathers and uncles were on the side lines.

PS There will be a new book and movie coming out in the next year by Dan Brown, the author of the DaVinci code, that focuses directly on the Freemasons. In a very favorable manner, from what I read. The Lost Symbol

Congrats on the degree. Was surprised when I got my 3rd as my Batallion Commander stood in as Master and confired the degree. I am torn between the first and third as my favorite, I like them both.

I always liked the first because that is when a man first becomes a Mason. The third is when everything is confirmed. The Civil War reenactment that I am Chairman of had its first Lodge on the Battlefield last year where the 1st (EA) was conferred on to candidates. This year we are doing the 2nd degree (FC), We are expecting over 100 Mason's.

I compete in Civil War skirmish comps in Winchester,VA. The lodge there has opened its doors for us to have a special meeting (when available). The only requirement is that you wear the uniform of your unit to the meeting. Quite a few members have original jewels that they wear which were used to id other masons on the battlefield. The lodge dates back to the war and has quite a few antiques on display from that time.

There is a Scottish Rite degree dedicated to a certain Civil War background. It is extremely moving and heart wrenching.
