Yup, my nephew traded in his two camels and bought a baby kangaroo. Lives on a small farm in East Texas, near his mom (my sister). They own and run a gourmet canning business that does well enough to buy lots of toys, and a kangaroo. Just thought ya'll would like to know. The roo sleeps in a cloth pouch hanging on a door knob.

Baby roo?

I'd think a full grow'd one wouldn't fit in a sleeping bag. :eeek:

I hope the 'roo isn't destined for one of those gourmet cans!

It tastes pretty good actually. Much better than alligator

Put enough garlic on it, and anything tastes good. Did have some 'roo once in Australia, not bad.

Ya'll be nice. BettyRoo is too cute to eat. She follows my sister around like a puppy.

We did the "special" up in Port Douglas as part of a monthlong trip over that side of the globe. Roo, Emu and Alligator steaks (or was it croc? - it was 10 years ago). I remember the Emu was the best by far. Roo was ok, but the 'gator was awful.

Crocodile, probably salt water. I remember once in Darwin, we were told not to swim in the ocean. At night you could see them swimming about.

I looked it up - it was saltwater croc. Fresh from the river...
Wasn't nearly as good as the other two.

Sure you had "croc" Tony? I'll bet it was more likely to be "gator", which incidentally IS delicious (you can get it down here in a few places, most notably "R.J. Gators" a local food chain! !!! Would they start serving that 'roo at IHOPs?

Bet it was 'gator...long time ago...she's in her mid-30's now!

Overheard in a restaurant:

"Waiter, bring me the Crocodile steak - and make it snappy!"

Apologies,

Rob.

Last time we were in Australia, we were at a "farm stay" (Oz equivelent of a Dude Ranch) and they had a rescue Joey that the girls got to bottle feed.

The owners of the farm stay kept him in a pillow case by the kitchen stove - apparently at that age they sleep 20+ hours a day.

Cute little guys - too cute to can.

Rob.

How ironic to swim in Darwin, then make the Darwin Awards?

I know..."booooo." It's Monday morning, I'm still waking up...
