My motor number...?

well, according to Moss, the 100-4 motor # is located on a plate on the right hand side. Well, i have no plate on the right side, but i have these numbers casted in the block, but i'm not sure which, if any is it:
"1B2363" and then another "MO 21167" the "O" could either be a "C" (theres a little mark in the middle) or possibly the number "0". Either way there is a space between it and the rest of the numbers.

Im filling out my info for a Heritage certificate.

The most important number, for obtaining the right BMIHT Certificate, is the "Car No." That's the one that begins with "H" (except in the case of BN1, BN2, BN4 and BN6 series cars) and ends with the chassis number. For example, HBN7L12345.

Don't worry about supplying an engine number (unless the Car No. plate is missing and that's all you've got).
 
Actually, I was missing the engine plate on my BJ8 due to an acid bath of the block during rebuilding by the PO.
I gave Heritage the car number and they had the original engine number on the certificate.
I, in turn, had Clarke Spares make an original looking engine plate and the engine number is back at home on the block! What a fun hobby!!

Off the top of my head I believe that they (BN1 and BN2 series cars) ALL had that M at the end of the engine number. It does NOT indicate that the engine is a 100M engine, as some have suggested.
 
Not all 100s had this "M". This letter indicates that the engine was made by Morris Engines. Production was centralised there after the merger of Austin & Morris to become BMC.
Like most mergers, this rationalisation took a while, or, in the case of British Leyland, never happened!
