As per the advice to leave the rust be for now, I printed out the list and started examining the car. Right now I'm working on rebuilding the front suspension. It was almost sitting on the bump stops. I'm also replacing the brakes. Progress has been somewhat slow since this is my first MG and therefore a bit of a learning experience.

The transmission dipstick is rusted in place. I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to free it up.

PB Blaster. Over about 3 or 4 days.
 
It may not be rusted in place. Most of the time they are just stuck. Fish a small rope or heavy string thru the hole in the dipwand and up thru the hole behind the radio. You should be able to pull it out that way. Its tough to get yor fingers down there and get any force on it. Bob
 
The PB Blaster thing can't hurt but Bob has a better method. Thread a stout bit of rope thru the "eye" of the dipstick and loop it so you can get a stout screwdriver thru the loop, using a piece of 2x4 or other "cusion" material at one side. Then LEVER the thing out. Think "Archimedes" here. The seal around the "plug" of the stick can become REALLY well ~stuck~ in the bore if it hasn't been regularly checked.
