My Little Vice

I suppose all of us have our little vice. But I have one that makes a lot of my friends really laugh.

I'm addicted to the Wedding Announcements in the New York Times.

It started many years ago when a friend of mine got married and they ran a story about him and his new Missus in The Times Weddings section.
His story included stuff about him go-kart racing when he was in the Australian military and the fact that he'd worked for a circus. This was stuff I never knew about! Then I started reading other wedding notices and some were even better. I've been hooked ever since.

So yesterday they did a story about Claire and Elijah.

Claire is a pretty blond aspiring actress and a waitress at a restaurant.

Elijah is a theoretical astrophysicist in New York, currently working as the Columbia Prize Postdoctoral Fellow in the Natural Sciences at Columbia University. His research focuses on the formation of the first stars and supermassive black holes in the early universe. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon and received a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard.

Could you even make that up? The only thing better would have been if they were named Penny and Leonard.

OK the bride did graduate magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh. But still.......

Anyway, I bet they'll have lots of neat stuff to talk about and I wish them all the happiness in the world.

Feel free to share any of your foibles.....but no pressure. ;)

Hilarious. It used to be the case in our local "The Oregonian" that people would try to sneak in really funny photos in the announcements section... though I think they screen them better now.

if it was my wedding announcement bio (30 something years ago), it would have read something like:
"Guy considered Harvard, he considered Yale,.......but Texas Tech considered him."

correction: Texas Tech & my charming wife.
i think I caught them both at a weak moment.
